Very Very Lucky
A life-affirming story from million-copy bestselling author Amanda Prowse about having it all, losing it all, and how new friends can show each other the way back to happiness.
With kids to look after, an ailing mother and a neglected husband, life is full for Emma Fountain—too full, she realises, when she wakes up in IKEA after falling asleep in one of the show beds. Only her crazy, funny best friend Roz keeps her sane. But when Roz climbs in through her bathroom window one day to deliver terrible news, Emma’s belief that she can find a way around any obstacle crumbles in the face of a problem she just can’t fix.
For recently widowed Thurston, life without his beloved wife of sixty-two years has lost all its joy and sense of purpose. That is until he finds himself driving his niece to work one day and meets Emma, whose busy days are the opposite of his own. As Thurston is drawn into the whirlwind of Emma’s chaotic life, and as his calming influence starts to bring her troubles into perspective, an unlikely friendship grows.
In a world where grief is the price we pay for love, can two very different people realise that the little things in life are precious, that love is all around us, and that, even after all, they might still be very, very lucky?

Ericka Sherod –
masterpiece
This is the first book I have read by this author and all I can say is, it is a masterpiece of writing. It is a jewel of an example of the chaos of life. How someone can write something so profoundly funny and deeply sad is enough to make you shake your head. I fell in love with each character and the plot twists were like little roller coaster rides- which is what life is, I guess. I read a lot of books and I have to put this one at the top of my list of favorites. And, yes; as others have suggested, read it with tissue handy.

Emotional experience
This book took me on an emotional roller coaster. One minute I had tears running down my face, the next minute I was laughing then only to be sobbing a couple chapters later. Thurston has lost his wife of 62 years and is extremely depressed. Emma is burning the candle at both ends taking care of her family and elderly mother. The book starts with Emma being woken up after falling asleep in a bed at IKEA and the story switches between Emma and Thurston’s story chapter by chapter until their stories intertwine. I would definitely recommend.

On Being All Things
Emma’s stress level is above and beyond good sense. She is the epitome of a people pleaser, and she stretches herself far too thin. You can almost feel her nerves vibrate. I have to admit to feeling unsettled myself when I got into her story. She wore me out! She is blessed with Brenden, a husband beyond reproach, a man who helps her back on track when she jumps the rails. Just when I thought I couldn’t take any more and knew the poor woman was going to snap, her dinner party for her daughter Martha’s new boyfriend Sergio brings laugh-out-loud predicaments that cut the tension hilariously. I’m so tempted to tell a few things about it, but that would be a real spoiler.Emma’s forever friend Roz can always prop her up and always makes her laugh, but Roz has some shattering surprises of her own. If it weren’t for Emma’s new octogenarian friend Thurston, she would have flipped out entirely. Thurston is the beloved character who enters from stage left and steals the show and the admiration of her two sons at the same time. This is a story about gut-wrenching grief, about trying to be all things to everybody, and about friendship and family. Deep friendship and special family ties. I will say that Emma does learn to loosen up, and learns to put herself first now and then. This book is sad and also belly-laugh funny in places. It is heartwarming throughout the entire work. Read it!

An honest look at grief, love and life.
Emma is overwhelmed by her hectic life. Her children need her, her aging mother needs her, and her best friend needs her. Emma just needs a moment of peace and quiet with her wine in the empty bathtub.I related so much with Emma, most mothers will. She had taken on everyone’s needs and worries while putting herself second until she was at her wits end. Meeting Thurston, who had his own overwhelming grief, helped her to let go a little.Finding a way to deal with her life, while allowing others to help; opened the door for new friendships and peace in the midst of sadness. This book was an honest look at how grief can be all consuming one minute and then a beautiful memory of love the next. The importance of friendship and acceptance were played out with such humor that it didn’t feel preachy or forced. Not every problem could be solved or needed to be. Sometimes all that can be done is to avoid the piles of “poo”.I was crying, laughing, and reading until 3am. Wonderful book!

Beats tidy that reminds you to appreciate you have!
This was a very beautiful book That I truly enjoyed. Having just lost my mother 6 months ago, I understand how hard it is to move forward after loss. Amanda Prowse did a great job with her character development Showing the good the bad and the ugly of a real family. Looking forward to reading her other works.

took time to get to the point
You know where the story is heading, however it took 8 long chapters to get there. After the first chapter on Thurston, you get the idea that he is depressed and miserable but it goes on and on and on. I read the Emma chapters but skipped all the beginning chapters on Thurston. The book gets better once the 2 characters meet. It took me a while to finish. For me, it was a book I could put down without a desire to keep going.

Real Life-Really Awesome!
A story of life—in all its’ parts, the ugly and beautiful, the pain and pleasure, the sorrow and joy. A story to be read more than once, in order to wring every morsel of wisdom from it. A story that while I can wish to have read and learned from when I was younger, I must admit that it’s only from this age and vantage point I can fully appreciate the wisdom and compassion of this work. Many thanks and kudos to Amanda Prowse for another outstanding book!

The words very beautiful are probably peculiar to describe a book but this book is a bit unusual. I could relate to all the characters and their emotions resonate with you as you get to know them. Some life lessons delivered in a prose which is simple and easy to comprehend. Enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone, especially those facing problems in life
