    Mystery, Betrayal, Survival
I received a free copy of this book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.An exciting, engrossing book. I enjoyed this story with its mystery, adventure, characters and plot. Plus, it is a fascinating tale of survival in inhospitable conditions.Mitch Miller and his young daughter, Lilly find themselves on a ice flow in freezing cold Arctic. On their way home from Japan, the flight crashes into the ice and splits into two parts. Mitch and Lilly find themselves in the first-class pods where there is little food, light blankets and body numbing cold. Along with other surviving passengers they scrummage through suitcases for clothes, the plane’s kitchen for food and grabbing as many blankets as they can find. When the group tries to piece together what happened, they find they cannot remember. No one can remember. How is that possible? That question becomes the first of many the survivors will face. Not the least of which is how to continue to survive. Thus, begins the adventure to live, the what happened mystery to solve, the who, and they why. All these questions have answers, but they are not to be easily solved. Mitch and a group of survivors set out through incredible odds to find answers while trying to stay alive. Nature and man seem to be working together to stop them from finding the answers. This tale will have you on the edge of your seat. The characters are well-defined, believable, and likeable. The world is so realistic that I was freezing while reading it. I needed hot cocoa. This was decidedly one of the best books I’ve read in a while. Look for this Author if you want some good reads.

    Almost spellbinding!
Wow, this is a cracker of a thriller. I am not going to summarize the tale, as other reviewers have done that. A commercial plane en route from Hong Kong to Canada and New York goes down over the Arctic, in the dark of the Arctic winter. What follows is a story of bravery, and be prepared (as usual with thrillers) to suspend disbelief here and there. To my relief Mr Mather does explain about his research at the end of the book — and convinced me that his story was (fairly) believable. I do doubt, personally, the brave journey in the half-dark across treacherous ice fields — it’s NOT really something that could really be done by ordinary people with no proper protective gear, food and equipment. I also wondered where the firearms came from, as recently I even had cans of French food bought in Charles de Gaulle airport x-rayed … You cannot even pass through without taking off the belt on your jeans because the metal buckle sounds a warning! Also, Mr Mather threw too many possible conspiracy theories into the mix … and the conclusion our hero reaches at the end is a bit far-fetched. Still, any book that can hold me prisoner for two days to see what happens, is a good thriller. I was also surprised to find it was self-published. The style and grammar are fine except for a few spelling errors.

    WAIT, WHAT? REALLY???
Don’t let that 5-star rating fool you. This is not a book you want to pick up. What’s most frustrating is how long it will take to find another book like this. Why can’t I get away from it, put it down, go out to eat or even sleep. No, not because it’s not written well because, oh man, it’s terrific. I fumed on how much better his writing is than most other authors I’m reading. So, now you’re warned. Set aside some comfy time … oh, and grab a blanket. This is a cold, cold, frigid, freezing story. Kidding aside, I’m am so happy to find another author, other than Tim Tigner, that has the research chops to thrill, surprise, frighten, educate, enthrall, enrich, make me laugh or smile. These are big boots to fill. Mr Mather is one thoroughly informed writer. Don’t skip over the afterward, you’ll be shocked and surprised. I’m thumbing up his other stories, sure they’ll be as excellent as this book! !!!!!!!!!!

What a twist on why this plane went missing…..
You would expect the reason would be one of several that you have read already but you are wrong! Not until the end did I discover the real reason and wow was Mr. Mather so right! I found this book to be so engaging that I could not put it down. I waited until I was half way through it before I stopped and made me some dinner, then right back at it to finish it before I could go to bed. And for most of the way through the book I’m trying to figure out why this plane goes missing. I kept thinking it would be aliens or the like. Well it’s not but the real reason is going to surprise you. I am 70 years old and I have always thought this would be a problem in the future! To say I liked this book is not good enough, I loved this book, the story was awesome and so were the characters. Think you know someone, well most of us don’t at first glance and to make an assumption about a person upon the first meeting is usually always wrong. Want a great book to read, then get this one, you won’t be sorry. Unless you are one of those people who wouldn’t be happy in Heaven!!

will keep you engaged til the end
I really enjoyed this book. It keeps you engaged and guessing until the end, I genuinely wasn’t sure who the “bad guy” was until the end and my guess changed throughout the book. I also enjoyed that there really isn’t a heavy love story which is funny for me, a fan of romance, to say but too often I come across mystery novels that are a bit too heavy on the sex but definitely not this one. It’s even got a bit if an environmentalist tilt too which I do appreciate. My main complaints would be sometimes the main character’s 5 year old daughter’s dialogue is overtly childish and other times it’s almost as if an adult is speaking which kind of threw me off and especially in the begging the editing is clearly lacking but nothing that detracts too much, it’s all still understandable. Overall I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a book that will definitely suck you in!

To much of “my daughter won’t die” I mean we get it don’t have to repeat it a million times. Details feel true so I guess it was fine.

Reminiscent of Matthew’s earlier book “Cyberstorm,” a very personally relatable story, for everyone with loved ones waiting for them at home. After visiting his in-laws in China, Mitch & his 5 yr-old daughter Lilly, fly home to New York, leaving his newly pregnant wife to continue her visit. After their plane crashes somewhere in the Artic, can Mitch, his daughter & the microcosm of international passengers survive until rescuers arrive?Unbeknownst to them, unknown geopolitical forces are working against their very survival in the harshest climate on earth! There are more questions than answers as the story unravels. Fast-paced, scary read that I didn’t want to put down, but also didn’t want it to end!! Told in the “first person” by Mitch, makes you wonder if you would be that brave & self-less, & have the stamina to survive in the brutal cold of the Arctic with just their wits & clothing from others suitcases. Thought-provoking twists & turns will have you second-guessing everything & everyone. My only criticism is the idyllic ending. I would have written a different ending. Good research by the author. Spoiler alert: Do you know how to make a magnet?

Actual rating 3 1/2 stars. A very well-written, extremely tense story. It reminded me quite a lot of the first of his “World War C” trilogy, namely, “Cyberstorm” which of course described the apocalyptic struggles of NYC in the midst of a devastating snowstorm (among other issues)! Still, I did have trouble getting into this book as this is typically not a genre I find all that interesting. Yes, there was a Tom Clancy-esque level of intrique and misdirection, not to mention a level of almost too much researched depth and detail, but I never really warmed to the plot. To be honest, I found the characters unrelatable and the situation just too plain bizarre to really feel fully integrated.Still, I could see where this would thrill absolutely millions of people and wouldn’t be surprised to (also) see this one on a streaming channel, particularly if the filming of the aforementioned series does well. Sure, it’d be great in that format, but here, I just ultimately kind of wanted things to hurry up and move forward! But if you’re looking for a great holiday, beach-side read, you can do a lot worse than this one. Again, I think Mather is an exceptionally talented writer, but we just haven’t been able to align our mutual interests – excluding “CyberWar” which I just adored! We’ll see how the next attempt goes some day!

I really enjoyed the unusual plot, which kept you guessing to the end. A real roller coaster of a story.
