A Perfect Plan

A deviously clever story featuring the beloved forensic detective Lincoln Rhyme.

When the FBI comes to Lincoln Rhyme with the news that a mysterious assassin is targeting him, the detective is not particularly concerned. With his long career putting away criminals, he is accustomed to threats on his life, and has designed his Upper West Side townhome to be secure against nearly any threat. But when the assassin gets too close for comfort, shadowing Rhyme and his wife Amelia Sachs as they go about their daily life, Rhyme determines to find out why this person is after him. He must put himself inside the mind of a killer in order to save his own life, and possibly the lives of those he loves most.

    Fantastic story
This story was fantastic because there is no crime to solve at least not at the moment. Someone wants to have Rhyme killed, but Rhyme knows about it kind of sort of. The who, when and how is what must be discovered. The pace of this story awesome you just can’t wait to see how it is figured out. And no I not going to say any more about for now.

    Sucked In in 55 Pages
Lincoln Rhymes, the iconic wheelchair bound forensic evidence specialist and his wife Amelia Sachs are always fascinating and no less so in this perfectly set up story. An overheard phone call leads the then British intelligence agency(s) to share with the FBI a possible professional hit on Rhymes. I have no trouble imagining such an event. So the Rhymes reaction was.unpredictable.and interesting, hooking the reader.for the short reveal.

    GREAT, AS ALWAYS
Lincoln and his crew are investigating another murder. The clues are few and far between. He receives a message from an old foe that says he will be dead soon. This man is not in the states, he’s in Great Britain. But he is on his way. Good story.

    Short Story
Read in about hours. Very disappointed when I realized that it would end with nothing. Seems to be a book that could not be finished so he turned it into a hanging short story. Disappointed.

    Typical Jeffrey Deaver brilliance.
Fifty five pages. Every Lincoln Rhyme character involved at just the right level of importance to the caper. To me… the watchmaker was the obvious source of the threat from the beginning. Jeffrey Deaver’s diversions distracted just enough to create enough doubt that when the watchmaker was outed, there was an element of surprise. Well done.

    A Lincoln Rhyme Short Story
The plan is ultimately to eliminate Lincoln Rhyme. What appears to be a prime suspect takes a bit of a twist, only to lead the reader down another path. This path leads to the conclusion which is ultimately a cliffhanger.I’ve always liked shorts written by Mr. Deaver. He has a knack for pouring a good deal of a storyline smoothly into a rather small space. You’ll read this short story quickly; its worth your time.

Great author, takes you to the brink all the time. I have thought I have it all figured out, then he slams you with another set of clues to ponder. Great reading.

This “story” ended suddenly, without warning and without closing off anything. I felt very disappointed, ripped off even. I am surprised that this is being sold as a story. It’s more like a preview.

The Lincoln Rhyme tales are always a good read. This short story is cute and unpredictable.
