Paris for One and Other Stories

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Giver of Stars and the forthcoming Someone Else’s Shoes, Paris for One and Other Stories is an irresistibly romantic collection filled with humor and heart.

“A vicarious jolt of Parisian romance. . . Delightful.” –People Magazine

“An old-fashioned, feel-good love story. . . It’s as if Moyes has booked a vacation and is taking us along. To Paris. Amour!” –USA Today

“Dreamy escapism, a book you can curl up with and easily finish over a weekend, with or without a glass of wine.” –Miami Herald

Nell is twenty-six and has never been to Paris. She’s never even been on a romantic weekend away—to anywhere—before. Traveling abroad isn’t really her thing. But when Nell’s boyfriend fails to show up for their mini-vacation, she has the opportunity to prove everyone—including herself—wrong.  Alone in Paris, Nell finds a version of herself she never knew existed: independent and intrepid. Could this turn out to be the most adventurous weekend of her life? Funny, charming, and irresistible, “Paris for One” is quintessential Jojo Moyes—as are the other stories that round out the collection.

    Great!
A wonderful story of a girl lacking confidence with a selfish boyfriend. She ends up in Paris alone and what a time she has as she finds her joy within. My first book by this author and I look forward to more.

    Short Stories by Jojo Moyes
This was an interesting book of short stories by a fantastic author. The first story Paris for One is the length of a novella and the additional 8 are short stories. As with any short story collection, there were some that I really liked and others not so much. Instead of being all about ‘happily ever after’, these stories were a more realistic portrayal of life — some had happy endings and some didn’t but they were all about women and how they handled their lives and their marriages. My favorite was Paris for One. Nell, a shy English girl, plans her first trip to Paris with her boyfriend – who doesn’t show up. Nell can either take the first train back home, stay in her hotel or go out and experience Paris. Her choices completely change her life and she is a different person at the end of the story.Read these short stories if you’d like a glimpse of the author’s wonderful writing and then order one of her novels to find the wonderful characters she creates.

  5. Autumn – Agents of Romance

“I feel like I fell in love with an entire city.”
Nell Simmons isn’t known for being an impulsive girl. Her colleagues debated about how she was going to spend her bonus. Was she going to stash it in the bank or maybe splurge on a different sandwich selection for lunch? She would surprise everyone. She spends her hard-earned money on a holiday in Paris for her and her longtime boyfriend. It’s the first time she’s had the opportunity to travel and she’s filled with so much anticipation. Circumstances take an unexpected turn when she finds herself all alone in an unfamiliar city. She has a choice. She can either take the easy way out and the next train home or she can try to find out who she really is and exactly why Paris is always a good idea.Paris For One & Other Stories is another fine example of why we are so in love with everything Jojo Moyes! Each short story in this poignant compilation is overflowing with emotions that will grip your heart and then set it free in a way that only she can fashion. You will find yourself being moved to tears, laughing out loud and maybe even finding the inspiration to take a chance on love once again…

    A Quick but Enjoyable Read
“Paris for One and Other Stories” is the first book by JoJo Moyes that I ever read. The title story is a novella and the rest are short stories. While light reading, this was definitely enjoyable. The author made you care about the characters and there were some surprising twists. A good beach read or book to curl up with on a rainy day. Based on this book, I think I will try more of the author’s books.

Great read if you are in the mood for Romance
I am a big fan of Jojo Moyes so anytime she has a new book out I can’t wait to read it. I love her writing style. She is so good at making you feel like you are really getting to know her characters. This was a different book for her because there was one longer story and then the rest were very short stories. The only thing I didn’t like was the stories were sometimes too short. I wanted to know more!!! But that is me. They were still very well written and all were nice love stories. And each one different from the last. Really enjoyed this one 🙂

Fue un libro muy tranquilo pero lindo. La protagonista logra salir de su zona de confort de una manera interesante.Las historias son muy concisas pero te dejan con una pequeña trama pero disfrutable

The book is made of one mid-length story with several short stories. Most stories leaves the audience imagine the aftermath. If you’re the type to make your own endings, this book would be perfect.

I don’t always enjoy short stories, but this collection is great. One longish story followed by other shorter ones. As the title suggest, Paris is the theme.• Paris for One and other Stores:• Between the Tweets• Love in the Afternoon• A Bird in the Hand• Crocodile Shoes• Holdups• Last Year’s Coat• Thirteen Days with John C• The Christmas ListThe first, a novella, is enchanting and it is easy to become enthralled. Nell, 26 years old, awaits her boyfriend to join her for a trip to Paris. This is a first for her. The first visit to Paris and the first romantic weekend she has had.Pete is too busy to join her so she faces the daunting prospect of either turning around and going home or filling her weekend with sightseeing on her own. Neither alternatives appeal to her, especially as her hotel room is double booked and she has to share with a stroppy American woman. For one night at least. She decides to stay and her life changes. For far too long she has been cautious about any change always overthinking everything and writing lists to help her decide on every aspect of her life. Now is the time to be brave. The other 8 short stories, along the Paris theme, are also very engaging. The characters are all believable, and you cannot but like them (the main ones).JoJo Moyes does not disappoint.I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are all my own and completely unbiased. My thanks to Netgalley for giving me this opportunity.
