    4 Stars
I gave 4 Stars to Claire Douglas’s latest thriller, “The Girls Who Disappeared.”SUMMARYJenna was planning to spend several days in a small town to investigate a very intriguing cold case for her true crime podcast. In 1998, there had been 4 teenagers involved in a car accident, but when the ambulance arrived there was only one girl, Olivia, in the car. The other three girls somehow disappeared while Olivia was blacked out and had never been heard from again. There were many theories about what had happened ranging from; them running away and starting a new life to an alien abduction. Plus, the town had a very haunted reputation which added a whole new element.Jenna was determined to find out what happened.Additionally, there are chapters with a seemingly unrelated story about a group of 20-something on a trip to Thailand staying at a mysteriously rich “friend or a friend’s” house. As Jenna starts asking around, talking to various residents of the town, she begins to realize that there is much more happening under the surface of the town.WHAT I LOVEDI loved the possibility of a haunting! That was super fun! I adore Brit-Lit and this was Brit-Lit at it’s finest. I loved the characters, Claire Douglas managed to create characters who were simultaneously strong but vulnerable. I loved trying to figure out how the Thailand story fit into the plot. It was just a fun story to read!WHAT I DIDN’T LOVEThe ending didn’t seem super realistic to me. I was a little disappointed in it.OVERALLThis was a very fun book to read. I highly recommend it for anyone who loves a twisty thriller with great characters, and the possibility of a haunting.

    Started off really slow
I got really tired of hearing about the authors cheating husband & her little boy. I would have rather her making the decision to leave the marriage or at least had come to the terms it was over BEFORE leaving for the interview/podcast. There was also a TON of noticeable grammar errors that made me reread the sentence 3 times lol….. The overall story kept me interested. It came together well

    Good Read
3.75 Stars:It was a wee bit of a slow burner for me, which is always tricky. I enjoy action-packed horror or thrillers that keep me on the edge of my seat. This was not it, however, there was a twist that came out of nowhere (in my opinion) which can go either way when writing my reviews… I do like the author, so I will continue to look out for any follow-on books that pique my interest.

    This was beyond amazing!
The story was very well thought out the story was full of good information and I was sure that I was going to figure out ‘who done it’ any minute. (I didn’t.). Then another story opened up and eventually, it all made sense. It’s 2:37 a.m. and a bit past my bedtime so I’ll shut up now. Get this book!

    Entertaining
The Girls Who Disappeared is new in paperback from author Claire Douglas.Journalist Jenna Halliday wants to make her mark as a podcast host. She’s found a cold case that she thinks will be perfect – the twentieth anniversary of the disappearance of three young woman. Four went out on the town and only one – Olivia – came home. Not a sign of the other three. Were they abducted? By something otherworldly? By someone? Could they still be alive? The small village that was home to the girls is not overly welcoming to Jenna. But she is determined to find the answer….but at what cost?I liked the premise – having so many options for what might have happened keeps the reader guessing.Jenna was an interesting lead – braver than I think I would have been in some situations. She’s quite pushy at times. Douglas worked as a journalist herself and I think that the book and character benefit from that inside knowledge. There’s a dual narrative with the other voice being Olivia’s. She has secrets and memories that she has kept quiet about, for all of those twenty years. Seeing the same supporting characters through different eyes and experiences again gives the reader more information than Jenna has. There’s an italicized group of short chapters that focuses on a number of unknown people. What is their story and connection to the book? And last, but not least – there’s also a fairly large group of supporting/suspect players, each with a role to play. I did find some of these players a bit caricaturized. The plotting of The Girls Who Disappeared is quite busy and does ask the reader to suspend disbelief at a number of junctures, including the police investigation and Jenna’s involvement in it. But on the flip side, that brings our protagonist closer to the whodunit. Just go with it. The final whodunit wasn’t who or what I had thought it was going to be. Douglas also adds one more twist in the final pages that was also unexpected. Nicely done. The Girls Who Disappeared is another good read from Douglas.

A Thriller with a great tone
I enjoyed how the author had three perspectives and how they all tied together. I also loved how the town was described and pulled me into the story. The twist was good and glad that how it ended. The audio book narrators really helped make the book come alive.

    A great mystery!
This story is told a bit at a time, from each character’s outlook, which is easy to follow as each character becomes real. The story has many twists and turns, and keeps the reader turning pages. This is an author who will be on my read all she wrote list!

Je viens de terminer la lecture de ce livre que j’ai beaucoup apprécié. Encore une fois je suis toujours tres étonnée de l’imagination de ces écrivains de polars qui vous tiennent en haleine jusqu’à littéralement la dernière ligne du récit.

Claire Douglas has done it again. A brilliant plot and a flawless narration as usual. The mysterious disappearance of three girs and the effort of finding the truth after a time gap of twenty years is breathtaking. A must read for all lovers of domestic thrillers and five stars for me.
