Easy read
This book was easy to read and absorb details (except for all the names to try to keep straight) Storyline was easy to follw and, for a change, the spelling and sentence structures were used accurately which then allows for correct interpretation of the author’s meaning and point he was conveying.

Good writing with one tiny flaw.
Sprightly writing, solid plot and characters one comes to care about. My only caveat is the juvenile boy girl stuff. Our main character, Clint, acts like a fourteen year old valley girl when around an attractive woman. Giddily thinking of her arm only inches from his on the car console. A lot like this. That aside, I liked this book and will carry on to book number two in the series…and probably further. Clint has had major drama in this life so his awkwardness around women can be somewhat justified. Overall, you’re going to like this book.

One of the best mystery series I have ever read
I have read 31 of the books in this series. I found everyone wort a five, yes there were some I liked more than others, and some I liked less than others. But all-in-all I truly found each book worthy of a five. The story line evolves around Clint Wolf as he starts a new life in the swamp/backwater area of Louisiana. Each of the books seems to create a bit more suspense than those previous, and each book, to me, seemed more intense than the previous. As they say, at times it was difficult to put it down. But, one of the things that I enjoyed in these books was that the author was able to create a situation or conversation, etc, and then was able to end it all in a chapter. So many of these now authors create chapters that seem to go on forever, and many of us just can’t read and read, we have a life to live. Again, this is a great series, you won’t go wrong by starting with book one, and just keep on going.

a great first book. I will start the next one soon!
Great character development. Plot with twist and turns to keep you guessing. Main character, was perfect, because he wasn’t ‘perfect’.

Unsatisfactory ending due to it being a trilogy
I wonder if authors realize that for some readers, the ending can make or break a book. Since I wasn’t aware when I read this book that it was actually a trilogy, I was left feeling especially LET DOWN upon reading the final page. When a reader invests themselves in a story, in the characters of that story, there are certain expectations…and when those expectations aren’t met to the readers satisfaction, then anything that came before can be marred. And this is what happened to me.I really enjoyed this book…from beginning to the 2nd to last page, it held my attention, got me to invest in the story that was unfolding, and made me feel anticipation to sit down and read more. In short, everything I could ever hope for in a book. BUT THEN…I read the last page and felt let down…and even the fact that there was a second book available wasn’t quite enough to piece the whole of my enjoyment back together. If I enjoyed the book, you don’t have to leave me hanging in order to get me to read the next installment. Really good books can be a difficult thing to come by at times…so if you put out a great story, I WILL read your next one. Just don’t make me feel that strong disappointment by leaving me hanging. I really DON’T enjoy that.As a side note, to anyone who is like me and doesn’t like the overuse of the “F” word…in my own personal opinion, it WAS overused in this book. But then, I don’t use this word, and so I don’t particularly care to see it over and over again in the books I read.

But Not Forgotten – Great Read
Enjoyed this first book in Clint Wolf mystery series. I really like these novels set in rural areas of the country & the connections both past & present made with the main characters. Recommend to mystery lovers.

Exceptional
Truly the start to an exceptional series! I had to return back to #1 to give my recommendation. I am now on Book 14 and thoroughly enjoying each book more than the last. Excellent characters development, interesting crimes & criminals and a cast of characters one becomes attached to quickly. Louisiana small town life, colorful descriptions of bayous and swamps and before you know it; you can almost smell the crawfish boiling, hear the bull frogs in the night and sense an alligator slipping quietly past you as you read!

But not forgotten
Great readI like how the next chapter continues the story. Where the CJ Box series seam to jump around between chapters from one character to another. Great story, can’t wait to read the next one.

I received this audiobook in return for an honest review. I quite enjoyed the book. J Scott Bennett is a good narrator who I have listened to numerous times. This book is obviously one of several in a series and I think that could be its only sticking point. The story ends on a cliffhanger, actually two cliffhangers in the overall book. The plot of this book was interesting and well thought out, definitely kept you guessing until the very end. People are being killed by someone with a crossbow and arrows. Clint and his team have to find out who and why, and who might still be in danger, before the killer strikes again.Interwoven throughout is several subplots, which is a cause for the cliffhangers. Clint is trying to move on with his life with a new girlfriend after his wife and daughter were murdered. One of his officers is being tried for use of excessive force; so both of those subplots are quite evident in the story.I puzzled over some of the police procedurals used in the story … the police themselves processing the crime scenes rather than having crime scene technicians process the scenes, but concluded that due to the fact that the story is set in a small town, can overlook that.Overall, quite enjoyable, and definitely kept me guessing and listening to find out who was the killer.
