Local Girl Missing: An International Bestseller – A Haunting Psychological Novel
Someone knows where she is…
The old Victorian pier was a thing of beauty until it was allowed to decay. It was where the youth of Oldcliffe-on-Sea would go to hang out. It’s also where twenty-one-year-old Sophie Collier disappeared eighteen years ago.
Francesca Howe, known as Frankie, was Sophie’s best friend, and even now she is haunted by the mystery of what happened to her. When Frankie gets a call from Sophie’s brother, Daniel, informing her that human remains have been found washed up nearby, she immediately wonders if it could be Sophie, and returns to her old hometown to try and find closure. Now an editor at a local newspaper, Daniel believes that Sophie was terrified of someone and that her death was the result of foul play rather than “death by misadventure,” as the police claim.
Daniel arranges a holiday rental for Frankie that overlooks the pier where Sophie disappeared. In the middle of winter and out of season, Frankie feels isolated and unnerved, especially when she is out on the pier late one night and catches a glimpse of a woman who looks like Sophie. Is the pier really haunted, as they joked all those years ago? Could she really be seeing her friend’s ghost? And what actually happened to her best friend all those years ago?
Harrowing, electrifying, and thoroughly compelling, Local Girl Missing showcases once again bestselling author Claire Douglas’ extraordinary storytelling talent.

couldn’t put it down!
I was instantly hooked on this story. It keeps you wondering until the end! It is definitely a must read for suspense lovers.

I was absolutely hooked from the first page. Kept me on my toes the whole time. Cant, wait to read more from Claire Douglas!

Ok but not in love
This book was recommended on TikTok and I’d never read this author before so I thought I’d give it a try. The story was engaging and suspenseful and had some intriguing parts. However the last 1/4 of the book fell flat in my opinion. I don’t want to give spoilers on the why. The story was ok but I didn’t love it.

Excellent
Wow what a twisted story. A real page turner. The characters were very well written and totally interesting. I love how the two main characters, each told the story.

Shocking!
So many thrillers say that they will “keep you guessing” until the very end but rarely live up to that promise. This book did that and more! I’m absolutely stunned. I did not see any of plot twists coming and had no idea it would end the way it did. I LOVE when a book shocks and surprises me! So often you can see what’s coming very early on in a book but you keep reading hoping the author wouldn’t make it that obvious. Well Claire Douglas pulled the rug out from under me with this book and I loved every minute of it! “The Sisters” was one of the best books I read last year so I was excited to read another book of hers. “Local Girl Missing” did NOT disappoint! I can’t wait to read another book by Claire Douglas! She now has a new lifelong fan!

didn’t dnf it
Meh. Easily predicted ending. Protagonist was never believable, and easily figures out. Would have been easier to read if I understood the British slang

What is really true?
This was a multi layered tale built on lies and deceit. Who was lying? The truth unfurled slowly with a dawning horror. I had to keep reading once I was drawn in and the suspense had built. I wanted to know what was really true. Nicely done!

It took me about 40 pages before I got caught – but after that I could not stop reading. Finished it in a day during my Holidays. Read it, you will love it!

I am a big fan of Claire Douglas and Local Girl Missing is one of the best domestic thrillers undoubtedly. Claire’s distinctive style of writing , plenty of twists and turns and a jaw drpping ending made it so good that I read it in one sitting. Ideal for those who liked The Wife Upstairs and The Girl On The Train. Strongly recommended. Five stars for me.

This was another excellent read by Claire. Each chapter had Francesca in the present day and Sophie in the past that leads up to what happened that fateful night. While I had worked out what was going on in the present day with Francesca and Sophie’s brother Daniel helping her, I still had to know what was going to happen. A great page turner and an ending that leaves you thinking…there are some trigger warnings in the book including toxic friendship, stalking etc… whilst it does lean more towards as a psycho-thriller. Claire is the master with an unexpected twist at the end.

Description of a decrepit pier in haze in the cold dragged me into a covert friendship between women, one was a beloved daughter of rich man seemingly tender to everyone, another was lackluster in her classroom though capable to make mutually reliable friendship. The former was in higher positions than the latter until when they both graduated from secondary school. After graduation, what the plastered woman had been secretly feeling for the ore causes her a dire dismissal from her past glorying. This story is worthy to rethink who is better as friend or not, also to enjoy reading.

Fantastic story. Thank you. The belief of the accident/murder kept me spellbound. Such a wonderful author. The twist towards the end made you question everything but I never envisaged the way the story ended. So well done. I highly recommend this book to lovers of mystery.
