The House in the Clouds: The House in the Clouds, Book 1
Two strangers, one house, and a secret to be revealed.
Artist Abigail Carey has always dreamed of a life in the country and, when Winfield Hall comes up at auction, she’s desperate to make the place her home. The only trouble is that businessman Edward Townsend has exactly the same idea.
With its position high on the Sussex Downs, Winfield is a stunning house, but it hasn’t been a home for a long time and there’s a lot of work to do to restore it to its former glory. It’s going to take a lot of time and money, so Edward and Abi decide to take a risk and share the house, each living in their own wing.
But can these two strangers agree on a vision that suits them both? And will free-spirited Abi ever get the rather reserved Edward to reveal the secret he’s been hiding for so long?
The House in the Clouds is the first audiobook in a brand-new trilogy from the bestselling author of The Rose Girls and The Book Lovers series.

Honest, heartfelt, and sweet. A story about two souls trying to surpass the ordeals of everyday life and heal from past wounds while restoring a manor house in the Sussex countryside. Book two is already in my TBR.Great narration by Powell with her gentle, soothing voice.

Excellent!
An enjoyable book that has me ready to read the next book in the series. I always enjoy reading Victoria Connelly’s books, and this one has me wanting more.

A calm, peaceful opening to a new series
A calm, slow-moving story sets the stage for MC’s that fall in love with a house and are determined to make it a home. A home where they can find happiness and heal from past troubles. This story will appeal to fans of Danielle Steele’s writing style. Long paragraphs of characters analyzing thoughts and feelings, with breaks of small conversations in between. I didn’t realize this was a Book 1 in a series and was wondering how I was getting to the end without any real closure. Then came the Book 1 reference, which now makes sense. The characters are interesting but there was only minimal growth in the character development, most of which occurred close to the end, signaling more to come in Book 2.

S-L-O-W-W-W burn
The premise is really interesting, the how’s & why’s the main characters took to get to Winfield Hall, in their lives. As buttoned up as Edward is, revealing so little of himself, other than to know he’s had his share of hard knocks & keeps people out, the reader wants to know more.Abi/Abigail has worked hard to get where she is, her sister Ellen demeans the efforts because she truly just doesn’t get it, relate to it. We also know from barely there hints, Abi has had a few hard knocks herself. It just takes so L-O-N-N-N-N-G to even approach them…

Weird point of view
When two hardworking strangers have big dreams for the same house that neither of them can afford by themselves… they own and renovate the ginormous house together. What could go wrong?⠀𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚𝙙: The premise of this story is so fun! And the plot had me intrigued from the very beginning. I loved how well I knew both of the main characters. Their descriptions were very in depth and the reader was able to fall in love with the characters!⠀𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙙𝙞𝙙𝙣’𝙩 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚: This novel was full of inner thinking and internal monologues. The characters were introduced through their own thoughts, the whole story played out through the view of both the MC’s thoughts. In the first 3 chapters (out of 20 total chapters) there were ONLY TWO SHORT CONVERSATIONS. One when the house was bought and the brother of the main character said congratulations, and a second one between the MC and the project manager. The second conversation was only 6 very short sentences long, so I’m not even sure if conversation is the correct word. This isn’t a point of view I am used to, and honestly I didn’t enjoy it. I would have loved this story much more if there were more conversations and we were introduced to some ancillary characters. As it was, the reader is basically only introduced to two people. In their heads.⠀The main characters are also quite static. I didn’t feel like their was any dynamic growth or change in the majority of the story until the very end of the book.⠀Overall the writing of the story was very good, and the plot itself was very good. I will read the next installment in the series and hope there are more conversations in the next one!

Again Victoria has shown what a wonderful writer she is. A tale of two people after the same house, one missing out, but coming together and making life work even with its ups and downs. Most enjoyable.

A lovely story of an old Manor House in desperate need of repair and love along with its garden and grounds and the people that take it on. Surprises emerge as the couple get to know one another and their pasts. A gentle read for a quiet corner! Lovely……..
