    This is an amazing understanding of how our soul operates within us. Self-awareness, is the key to living happy and this book teaches it well.     There never is such a thing as coincidence. While looking for new books to read I came across this! All of the principles Matt Tenney teaches were exactly what I was looking for. The big aha moment, is when I read realize how much our ego plays a role in our everyday lives and this book was they key for me to be free of my ego!     Personal development book offers advice on using meditation techniques to combat stress
    The author of this book, Matt Tenney, gives advice generated from years of practice and experience to overcome anxiety and depression. His central point, from which everything follows, is you only have the present moment to impact your life. What happened in the past and what happens in the future are out of your control. The technique of meditation (used in many current personal development books) is described to eliminate obsessive thoughts and spiraling worry. According to Tenney, the practitioner is to focus on breathing and when a distracting thought occurs, to just say “That’s okay. I was thinking a thought. Now, I’m just sitting here breathing.” It sounds simplistic, but it does work. Much of what he says is repetitive but the repetition serves to reinforce his ideas.There is no religious component to the practice, although the technique is very Zen-like. His strategies are useful for maintaining equilibrium in a stressful environment. The book is well-written and has exercises at the end of each chapter. There are numerous examples. My only criticism is the book promotes an entirely inward perspective, but I guess you can be self-aware, without being selfish. This book may offer help to those who are motivated to do the work.

    This book has made me truly aware of my thinking, I have progress to being able to catch my thought and have them pass and to return to being present in what I’m doing. I practice it the most while reading this book. The mindful awareness exercises were just right.
