Love Letters From The Heart
The Last Letter From Your Lover was beautifully written by Jojo Moyes and just may be my all-time favorite novel. It truly touched my heart and served as a reminder that we must never give up on life or on our dreams for happiness. Fate can often be cruel, but it can also be kind and eventually bring fulfillment. This poignant tale of star-crossed lovers revolves around the beautiful, heartfelt love letters written by a journalist to a married woman, who is little more than a trophy wife to her husband. Their love story spans several generations, and as the novel progresses, another story within this story develops, which impacts the outcome of this wonderful novel. Since I am a letter writer, involved in a long-standing, long-distance relationship, I could totally relate to this soul-wrenching love story. This was the first Jojo Moyes novel that I have read, and I now plan to read everything else that this very gifted author has written!

An Intelligent Romance
This is the 3rd book I’ve read written by JoJo Moyes and is by far one of the best writers out there in romance. The type of romance writing is very different from what is flooding the market right now. This is not some silly piece of fluff but a well thought out story with developed characters. By the way, I do like the silly type of romance book too but this is just so much more. What JoJo does incredibly well is bring you to the time and place of the story and make you feel like you are in that time and place with the characters. This story primarily is about the 1960’s in London society and I felt I was taken to a different time. Very few authors are able to do this effectively. The Last Letter from Your Lover is a great book but probably my least favorite of the three I have read. The romance romance between Jennifer and Anthony was a bit of a stretch for me. However, that issue was what present time Ellie was looking into for her newspaper story. How has loved changed and how would we communicate differently now letters versus our electronic world we live in. Overall, a great read and I would highly recommend.

Loved it.
What a great read. I’m not wild about the title & might never have read the book (not being familiar with JoJo Moyes) but a friend told me not to be fooled by the lame title. So glad I didn’t miss it.

Moyes does it again (and again and again)!
It’s official: I am a Jojo Moyes’ newest ardent fan. The first novel of hers that I read was ‘Me before you’ and I loved it. I was gutted by it, but I loved it. It stayed with me long after I put it down. And this novel has done the same. I stayed up way too late because I could not stop reading it, and the ending came way too soon. Moyes writes such vivid characters – they leap off the page and get under your skin, and you feel like you know them a little at the end. There are two stories here, interweaving and forty years apart. One is Ellie’s story – a young writer working for a top newspaper, coming undone a little as a doomed affair with a married man begins unraveling and she finds herself unable to let go, or move on without him. Looking for something else in the archives she stumbles across a letter, written from a man to his lover in 1960, and she is drawn into their story – or what their story seems to be. The letter speaks of him waiting for her to run away with him. Ellie wonders if she did. As she wonders Moyes takes us back to 1960, to Jennifer Stirling, waking up in hospital after a traumatic car accident with little memory about either the accident or her life before it. As she tries to find her life and her memories again she chances across a letter, hidden in a novel. It’s a love letter, passionate and powerful, and she begins to remember the man who wrote it, and their love affair. A passionate and tormented love story unfolds through letters and the events that brought Jennifer and Anthony together, and this story is brought into the present day, to Ellie and the letters she has found, from Anthony to Jennifer. Their story resonates with Ellie because she too is caught up in her own tormented affair, and she finds herself wanting to know what happened to them, perhaps as a way of looking into the future and seeing an end to her own story. The ending isn’t quite what she expects, for herself or for Anthony and Jennifer, but then, the best endings are perhaps not always the ones we expect, and life has a funny way of working out. I really enjoyed the movement between the two stories, and the way they wove together. The love letters are so beautifully written – I don’t know anyone who would not want to receive at least one letter like that. Unlike ‘Me before you’ I was not gutted by this story. I was moved and swept up and transported to London and the Riviera and into the lives of these characters, and that, for me, is the mark of an excellent storyteller. I’m downloading the next book now.

時代が前後して途中まで読みにくいなーと思っていましたが、話の展開にどんどん引き込まれてあっという間に読み終えました。他の作品も良かったですが、これもまた素晴らしい作品です!

It’s a beautiful and loving book. I like the way The author can right about two different times at the same book, and always make then connect.

This beautiful book allows one’s mind to wander…a love story of such candor and intensity that you ache for a happy ending. A very romantic book which follows two heroines living in London, one in the 60s and the other in today’s world of mobile phones and texting.I really love the way that JoJo Moyes totally immerses you in her characters. When we first meet our main character, Jennifer Stirling, she’s waking up in hospital, having had a traumatic car accident. Yet when she is introduced to her husband, of whom she has no recollection, and is sent home with him eventually, to a life she neither remembers or embraces readily.Jennifer goes through the motions, accepts what she is told is her life and all seems to bob along well enough, except when she finds a letter that isn’t her husband’s handwriting, and is clearly a link to someone she has been involved with, but whom?Anthony and Jennifer are the alpha and omega; the uniqueness of their love and tireless commitment endures every possible storm and tragedy. They travel through time and space, each sharing their deepest joy and pain, hoping against hope. London, France, Africa and America all come into play in this story of a woman piecing back together her life in effort to understand what she has lost, and what she threw away. There is a bit of a time-hop from 1964 to 2003. I’ll let you read and determine the juxtaposition of these two time frames and the women who inhabit the rest of the story. If you’re looking for brilliant characters who are both real and inspired, then do read this book. However, if you cannot wrap your head around time jumping between eras, look somewhere else.As for me, I rather love Ms. Moyes’ abilities to draw us forward and backward through time, connecting the dots of a trail gone cold and all the points between… very special in every way…
