Surprises Ahead! NOT what you expect!
Amazing mystery! I bought this book over a year ago, and I just somehow missed reading it! And recently, I saw the title in a list of must-read-mysteries, and I’m glad that I found this marvelous thriller among my overlooked books. This one was truly a unique and tantalizing treat!I think that the title misleads the reader a bit–like a bit of a red herring. And I am all for that. In fact, this book really fools and surprises the reader quite often, but you won’t anticipate any of those twists and turns. This is just a very cleverly done story!I don’t want to go into the plot – there are so many reviews giving plot summaries, and I don’t need to add another. And I certainly don’t want to risk giving out any “spoilers” by accident. Instead, I will say that the writing was excellent, the pacing was perfect, and the plot was surprising and (as I said before) filled with amazing twists-and-turns. So please don’t set this one aside by thinking it is “obvious” or “similar to other disappearing baby stories.” You will soon find out how different and unique this one really is! Bravo to the author!Yes – I am glad I pulled this one down from the cloud, and I am GLAD I didn’t miss it! FIVE STARS PLus for “The Couple Next Door.”

Shari Lapena has certainly wrote a good debut novel with The Couple Next Door. Now, while it may not be the best psychological thriller that I have ever read, it does show promise for the genre. Why? Because it is driven by tension and leaves readers gripping the book with all their strength. It oozes with untold secrets and lies, and is downright suspenseful until the very end. Readers may find that they have some sort of clue as to what is going to happen only to be torn from their suspicions when they find out what is really going on… The high stakes tension is unnerving and readers wish for the best but knowing the worst it yet to come… And the author does all of this justice.Now, some may wonder why if I think so highly of this novel that I have given it only 3 stars. First, in my reviewing, 3 stars means the book is good . Although, I did feel like something was either missing or something with the characters bugged me. In this case, I feel like I was expecting something different when I went into the story. First, the title is The Couple Next Door. This immediately lead me to believe that someones neighbors has some sinister agenda that would play out through the novel. While this may be true, it’s not exactly 100% accurate in my opinion. Sure, a couple is hiding something, and there is definitely some sinister stuff going on, but the title doesn’t necessarily due it justice. Once you read it you will probably understand what I mean.Other than this I definitley enjoyed the novel and am looking forward to the authors next release in August. Yes, the next book (another standalone) is coming and it is called A Stranger in the HouseRating: 3.5 stars
