The Keeper of Happy Endings

An enchanting novel about fate, second chances, and hope, lost and found, by the Amazon Charts bestselling author of The Last of the Moon Girls.

Soline Roussel is well schooled in the business of happy endings. For generations her family has kept an exclusive bridal salon in Paris, where magic is worked with needle and thread. It’s said that the bride who wears a Roussel gown is guaranteed a lifetime of joy. But devastating losses during World War II leave Soline’s world and heart in ruins and her faith in love shaken. She boxes up her memories, stowing them away, along with her broken dreams, determined to forget.

Decades later, while coping with her own tragic loss, aspiring gallery owner Rory Grant leases Soline’s old property and discovers a box containing letters and a vintage wedding dress, never worn. When Rory returns the mementos, an unlikely friendship develops, and eerie parallels in Rory’s and Soline’s lives begin to surface. It’s clear that they were destined to meet―and that Rory may hold the key to righting a forty-year wrong and opening the door to shared healing and, perhaps, a little magic.

    Lovely story
What a lovely read! Historical fiction, family drama, and a love story all rolled into one. Not to mention not one, but two plot twists! Recommend for anyone who loves a sweet ending.

A warmhearted historical novel with a whisper of magic
Thanks to Amazon Prime for an advance digital copy. All comments and opinions are my own.I couldn’t resist this book – second chances, true love, fashion, France, and the whisper of fairy tales and magic. This historical fiction has a dual timeline, telling the stories of Soline Roussel in World War II France and Rory Grant in 1985 Boston.Soline Roussel is a 60-ish Parisian dressmaker known for her exquisite taste and avant-garde designs when she meets Rory Grant, a 23-year-old fabric artist who decides to open an art gallery. At first these two women seem to have no commonality, but it soon becomes apparent that they share a special kind of grief as well as their passion for the creative, their lost loves, and a connection as kindred spirits. This is a story of mothers and daughters, “Three women who’d been thrown together by a series of events none of them could explain, across seas and years and so many losses. Three separate strands woven to make one whole. Fragile alone but stronger now because they were together.”I don’t want to share too much of the plot or its developments, for fear I’ll give something away that is best for the reader to discover while turning the pages. This is a novel of family secrets, of lost and found, of true love and forgiveness, an evil villain, and following dreams – all the earmarks of a fairy tale including a special wedding gown with a happily-ever-after guarantee. This was a warmhearted novel that provided the promised “happy ending” of the title. As Rory reflects, “Such an inexplicable confluence of events. Lives intersected. Hearts reunited. Families mended. Because of a box she found under the stairs of a burned-out building. A box full of happy endings – and perhaps a touch of magic.” I highly recommend this feel-good World War II historical novel.

    Beautiful
The Keeper of Happy Endings by Barbara Davis is an enchanting novel about fate, second chances, and hope lost and found. The story follows Soline Roussel, who comes from a family of bridal gown makers in Paris. It is said that brides who wear a Roussel gown are guaranteed a lifetime of joy. Decades later, aspiring gallery owner Rory Grant discovers a box containing letters and a vintage wedding dress while leasing Soline’s old property. An unlikely friendship develops between the two women as eerie parallels in their lives begin to surface. It becomes clear that they were destined to meet and that Rory may hold the key to righting a forty-year wrong and opening the door to shared healing and perhaps even a little magic. This book is a heartwarming tale of love, loss, and the power of friendship. Echoes of the past
A gripping heartfelt story, with historical fiction and more. The character development is strong. I found the characters believable and relatable and other characters with deep rooted vile intentions however still believable. The juxtaposition of both good and evil, rich and poor, past and present are intricately woven in this story, without feeling phony or predictable. The writing is so rich and captivating, I really wanted to see the gowns and the gallery and so much more. The last 10 – 20% of the book is riveting and full of emotion. The title of the book may appear to be a bit of a give-away but it isn’t.

Stick with it, it’s worth it!
Stars: 5/5 Spice: 0/5It took me a bit to get into this one, but it was worth it! I just had to know what happened in Soline & Anson’s short-lived romance. I was holding out hope for Rory & Hux. Camilla mostly made me angry. Once I got a few chapters in, I couldn’t put it down. Wonderful plot twist toward the end. I enjoyed this story & the artful way Barbara delivered it. I highly recommend if you love romance with some history behind it.
