What a Thrilling Ride !
As fast acting thrillers go, there are very few others that have kept me so enthralled. Be warned that when you start reading you will want to keep on turning pages until the end. The first thing to mention is that the characters are so well drawn that there is a depth to the story; they are not gossamer shadows but characters who share their fears, their emotions and their courage. The plot is in amazing detail, very fast moving and not without a multitude of twists and turns to keep you engaged. Finally with everything that we see and read about in regard to international relations and the threats to America from bad overseas actors, it has the feeling of realism that leaves to thinking how this could happen and in some parts, probably already has. Saul Herzog really knows how to write a riveting story and does so ,from what appears to be the case, from an in depth understanding of government and covert operations behind the scenes. Well done Sir !

Hard to swallow…
Hard to swallow, but fun to chew on. Levi , Laurel and Lance are definitely operatives I would want on my side.

Best thriller adventure!
I had just read the ASSET and couldn’t wait for the next chapter of Lance Spector’s story. The characters are basically what your imagination would expect them to be and Lance Spector is the complex man you’d want him to be. He is not a simple 2 dimensional character, he has a personal code of ethics and tries to be true to it. He is trapped in his beliefs and his perception of his role in life. I highly recommend this series especially for those of us who don’t trust governments and who enjoy action packed narratives. I appreciate how rapidly the story unfolded and found it truly was impossible to put down.

Another good old American spy thriller
Again, some parts of the book are little over the top, such as the way Spector once more manages to easily infiltrate another of Russia’s most secure buildings or how he shows Jack-Bauer-like survival skills. But apart from that, the action seems to ring fairly true and there is plenty of it!The story is told from an American perspective, obviously, where the Americans are the good guys, naturally. In an interesting twist that we began to see in Book 1, however, while most of the Russian men are bad guys, most of the Russian women are good guys, too.So, if you can identify with that premise, and I guess the Russian invasion of Ukraine only makes it easier to do so, you will undoubtedly find this an enjoyable read.Even the cynical view of American politics, where even the president himself seems will to do anything at all for the sake of keeping enough votes to stay in power, seems to ring especially true in the wake of what’s happened in the USA in recent years.Indeed, in more ways than one, the book seemed ahead of its time. Finally, as in Book 1, there is some violence, torture and hinted sensuality, but nothing very graphic.I definitely look forward to reading Book 3!

excellent book
Great plot and action. A few sections needed more or smoother detail. Looking forward to next book. Liked character development.

Series Review
I started this series after seeing it on KU and finished all five published books. It would seem there are two yet left to publish. The story in and of itself is very ripped from the headlines with enough research done to give characters a backstory. I don’t dislike the writing style and despite the jump from storyline to storyline within each book…it actually works. This isn’t a bad series. It’s actually quite interesting and quick reading. The problem lies with the author’s decidedly negative view of women. They exist in this author’s mind as either whores or mothers regardless of their accomplishments or rank within the organization they work within. All dialog and descriptions are of women who are seen by the author as nothing more than plot devises of his belief that women are only good for reproduction or bed partners.Even the “good” female characters who exist to work toward justice are given unlikable attributes and attitudes which severely limit the audience. As a devotee of Lee Child, David Baldacci, Vince Flynn and other authors of this genre, which is widely read by women, I spent the majority of the time rage reading this series as a result of the author’s choice to depict women as catty, petty incompetents. To be honest, there are zero likable characters in the series and the author’s keen ability to set a tempo for the storyline with interesting history and current events is the real star of the writing. The writing is good. The topical storylines are interesting. The choice to use every female character (there are many) as a punching bag is disappointing which is why I’ve given it three stars rather than four.

season 2!
Well if you read the first book in the series you know why I title my review this way. Lance Spector returns with Tatyana and the Russians now have a plan to devastate American interests abroad, overseen by a sadistic grotesque albino beast of a man. This monster also wants to take down the CIA in the process. Another page turner with multiple plot twists and of course our hero emerges in the most unlikely manner. Enjoy!

i read Herzog’s book The Asset which led me to this one.Apart from the Agent reaching the Russian president, I have to say simply that I’m ready for Book 3. Those who know a little about the former USSR, Russian politics will enjoy this book.Again, the reader should take this novel and analyse present day events and see how realistic this non fiction could become fiction in terms of real international politics and the weakness of America. While a thriller, the book overall moved me.Enjoy.

Same league as Vince Flynn ( RIP) and Lance Spector shall not disappoint. Fast paced action and fairly realistic and easy read.
Andrew Fox –
I don’t usually review books but I’ve been looking for some time for an author who could fill Tom Clancy’s boots. Big boots they are but I think Herzog has managed it, with this marriage of on the ground action and high politics. Of course, many of Clancy’s books were twice as long as this, so pull your finger out, Saul, enough with these novellas already …I think this is even better than the first in the series, it’s a riveting story with Spector, Roth and the President on one hand and the three Russian women on the other. I especially found Larissa and Svetlana very touching characters, pulled out of their ordinary lives into a world of violence and intrigue. Perhaps the action is a bit cartoonish sometimes, but difficult to avoid this pitfall. What is rare about these books is the setting of the events in a world context that is convincing and fills the reader (this reader, at any rate) with outrage. Also, very few typos!Looking forward to the next one….

This was a good story. I read it in a couple of days. It was very difficult to put down. Lots of action.
A. AKANNI –
Kept me entertained throughout and an immediate follow-up to the first book. The characters aren’t really any further developed but remained consistent. Some of the Russian character names are truely funny – the equivalent of “Boaty McBoatface”!!Lance Spector is a little too unbelievable at times – gets into some dire situations but manages to escape. The ending seemed a little rushed, and some of the new characters turn into mini-spies a little to conveniently, but good fun overall.
