The Stranger in the Lifeboat: A Profound Novel from the Author of Tuesdays With Morrie

#1 New York Times Bestseller

What would happen if we called on God for help and God actually appeared? In Mitch Albom’s profound new novel of hope and faith, a group of shipwrecked passengers pull a strange man from the sea. He claims to be “the Lord.” And he says he can only save them if they all believe in him.

Adrift in a raft after a deadly ship explosion, ten people struggle for survival at sea. Three days pass. Short on water, food and hope, they spot a man floating in the waves. They pull him in.

“Thank the Lord we found you,” a passenger says.

“I am the Lord,” the man whispers.

So begins Mitch Albom’s most beguiling and spiritual novel yet.

Albom has written of heaven in the celebrated number one bestsellers The Five People You Meet in Heaven and The First Phone Call from Heaven. Now, for the first time in his fiction, he ponders what we would do if, after crying out for divine help, God actually appeared before us?

In The Stranger in the Lifeboat, a philosophical novel wrapped in mystery and suspense, Albom keeps us guessing until the end: Is this strange man really who he claims to be? What actually happened to cause the explosion? Are the survivors in heaven, or are they in hell? The story is narrated by Benji, one of the passengers, who recounts the events in a notebook that is discovered―a year later―when the empty life raft washes up on the island of Montserrat. It falls to the island’s chief inspector, Jarty LeFleur, a man battling his own demons, to solve the mystery of what really happened.

A fast-paced, compelling work of inspirational fiction that makes you ponder your deepest beliefs, The Stranger in the Lifeboat suggests that answers to our prayers may be found where we least expect them.

God Gifts Us What We Need
And He does so, when we need it. This book shook me to my core. Ten people, shipwrecked and forced to spend multiple days with each other on a lifeboat miss out on the opportunity to live because they would not believe. How can you read that and not be stunned? After a glorious yacht ( The Galaxy), owned by multimillionaire, Jason Lambert, explodes, he and nine other people are tasked with a challenge from the Lord: believe in him, vocalize it, and they would be saved. As I read through the pages and learned the stories of each character’s life, I had hoped that someone would gather up everyone and create an atmosphere devoted to believing the Lord was on board with them, and they could be saved.I was wrong. No one believed hard enough. And those who did believe, only did so when sprinkles of miracles were placed in order by the Lord, Him/Herself.Everyone wanted to get out of the situation in which they had been placed, yet no one had the heart and faith to rally the other beings so a longer life could be extended to each of them. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll shake your head in total disbelief at the things that occur in this book.Mitch Albom has crafted a fictional story that feels real and will stun the reader without a doubt. This is the kind of book you read and then tell a friend to tell a friend and so on until a long line of avid readers have connected through these words.I truly enjoyed The Stranger in the Lifeboat, and I know you will, too.

    Original, Inspiring, Memorable…
This book popped up in my suggested reading list, and after digesting the blurb, I couldn’t resist. Toss in the fact the author is well known for numerous NYT bestsellers and there was no question I would one-click. I’ve not read any of his previous novels (which I intend to correct post haste), but all I can say about this one is—WOW, OH, WOW!The Galaxy is a mega-yacht owned by billionaire Jason Lambert. Inviting the uber-wealthy of the world on a voyage to celebrate tech, creativity, and brainstorming, Lambert surrounds himself with a guest roster that includes a past U.S. president, an Olympian, entrepreneurs, and the elite of the global business community. The watching world is glued to the lavish voyage, absorbing every opulent moment as a reporter shares from onboard the yacht—right up until a catastrophic explosion sends the ship plummeting to the bottom of the ocean. What and who caused the explosion is only part of the mystery.A handful of people survive, coming together in a lifeboat. Among them is Lambert, a few workers from the Galaxy, and a handful of the elite guests—all crammed within a small raft that becomes both hope and prison as the days pass without rescue. But there are two mysterious strangers among them, pulled from the sea—a mute girl named, Alice, and a man who makes a startling revelation.___________________________________________________________________From the book:We waited for the stranger to respond, but he just looked at us, doe-eyed. Lambert said, “He’s probably in shock.” Nevin yelled, “HOW LONG WERE IN YOU IN THE WATER?” perhaps thinking a raised voice would snap him to his senses. When he didn’t answer, Nina touched his shoulder and said, “Well thank the Lord we found you.”Which is when the man finally spoke.“I am the Lord,” he whispered.___________________________________________________________________Did you experience the same jaw-drop I did after reading that passage? NO WAY was I passing up this story, and I’m so glad I didn’t.The action shifts between the survivors on the raft (told through a journal written by Benji, one of the survivors), and what occurs a year later when the raft and Benji’s notebook are found washed up on a beach. When a local inspector becomes involved, readers are slowly emersed in his troubled past as he finds himself drawn deeper into the pages of the diary and the mystery of the people on the raft. This is a hard story to describe. What I will tell you is that is mind-boggling and thought-provoking. If you like survival stories, the many chapters devoted to those on the raft are sure to satisfy your appetite. If you enjoy mysteries, there are several cleverly tucked within the pages—a few that left me gobsmacked. Most importantly, if you are a fan of Christian fiction that makes you think and haunts you long after you finish reading, this is the novel for you. It’s a quick read with short chapters. I finished it in two days but might have devoured it in one had time permitted. I’m giving it five stars, but I would award it far more if possible. Simply outstanding and highly recommended!

    Palomero pero te deja pensando
Bueno, pero siento que quizás me faltó un poco más de mensaje. Aún así, entretenido y con buenas reflexiones de vida.

Who is The Stranger in the Lifeboat?
I really enjoyed reading this story. Jason Lambert is the rich owner of the luxury ship, The Galaxy. On her maiden cruise there is a crowd of important guests, including a former president and a famous rock band. There is a major explosion aboard ship that leads to her sinking. A group of survivors are in a lifeboat when they see a man in the water. They pull him aboard and he appears unscathed, unlike the rest of them. He claims to be The Lord. One passenger, Benji is writing in a notebook to his beloved, Annabelle. He says his cousin, Dobby was going to blow up the ship. He tells about each of the other survivors, including Jason Lambert, Olympic swimmer, Geri, a young girl. Alice and 6 others.A year later a lifeboat washes up on shore and a man reports finding it to Police Inspector Jarty LeFleur in Montserrat. Jarty finds a notebook wrapped in a plastic bag inside the lifeboat, but instead of turning it in, he begins secretly reading the tale. When he meets a man named Dobby who claims to be the cousin of someone on the ship named Benji, the inspector must solve the mystery. The author has a wonderful imagination, and I think you will be quite surprised when the stranger in the lifeboat is revealed and what was the fate of Benji. Everything is wrapped up nicely. I could not stop until I reached the end. Bravo!

    The Stranger in the Lifeboat
Absolutely riveting to me. As a Christian who knows “the Lord works in mysterious ways”, I find this type of literature a way to analyze and refine my faith – especially when happenings are surreal. I would highly recommend this book.

Borrowed from a friend and had to buy it for myself to keep!!
A wonderful book that had me pondering the situation where Faith asks us to make a choice. What is in our hearts. Across the detailed account of survivors in a small raft and the dangers and challenges of survival at sea this book was riveting. The surprise ending was also well done although the “solution” was a little too weakly developed throughout. Maybe to keep the mystery alive. My faith held strong. And for that I loved this book.

The book cover itself was in good shape, no dented corners even though it wasn’t plastic wrapped. So surprise on that b u t the way the pages were cut is horrible. So uneven, can’t really see it in the pics but I was like.. what the heck. Can’t say much about the story yet since it’s suppose to be a gift.
