Excellent, intelligently written!
One of the best design books! The ideas and solutions for designing a kitchen could also apply to other rooms in a house. Great tips! And, what a relief to see unique kitchens with “soul” and personality, instead of the carbon/cookie-cutter (latest trend) kitchens in magazine and real estate ads.

Such unique kitchens!
I love looking at kitchens and seeing all the ways to restyle and redesign—and I love this book! There are so many variations here—fun and trendy, weird and retro, functional and some not so much. I especially love the tips from designers about their most important tips for kitchen layout—and that designers can disagree and it’s ok. Actually, that might be my favorite thing about this book—the author recognizes that people have different needs from kitchens and so kitchens can be designed differently.

Inspiring Book, But I Wish It Offered a List of Resources
I am getting ready to remodel my kitchen and this book gave me a lot of fresh ideas. I was disappointed that there is no list of resources at the back of the book. I loved the purple linoleum floors, but it would have been even better if sources were listed for each kitchen. The author featured kitchens from a wide range of places, not just LA, New York and London. I loved the kitchen in Sacramento, which is close to where I live.

Could easily read cover to cover
Sophie’s book is a true gem, full of lovingly, thoughtfully written essays, invaluable tips and mouthwatering images. You’ll find yourself torn between wanting to highlight sentences yet not deface the beauty on each page; wanting to absolutely devour the book in one sitting yet forcing yourself to put it down so that you can savor the exquisite content. (I speak this from experience). 11/10 would recommend to anyone who loves design, or who’s ever simply sat in a kitchen! Bravo Sophie!

Best book of it’s kind
Decorating for real life with an artistic distinctive edge. Extremely helpful for those of us who don’t have unlimited budgets and actually appreciate workmanship from other eras. I especially appreciate the international viewpoints as i have lived most of my life in Europe. A must have for any design library!

Post Perfect/ Boring/White Kitchen
Sophie Donelson’s “Uncommon Kitchens” is a must read.! I am generally turned off by immaculate and unused / unlived in kitchens. Sophie is able to reveal our true nature by highlighting designers who understand what we actually do in kitchens! I see my lived experiences from past homes and favorite cottages. The featured examples also provide vision for how to integrate art and style into higher end renovations. Resale what? I want to LIVE in my house and love walking into my kitchen each and every day, and this book gives me good ideas of how to shift towards my genuine ideal.

Good inspiration for kitchen reno
I appreciate that this book had plenty of beautiful photos, but also writing that isn’t just fluff. There are ideas in here that don’t necessarily require having a ton of money or doing a gut renovation. All in all, one of the better interior design/decor books I’ve found.
