Catch Me: Detective D. D. Warren, Book 6
Detective D. D. Warren has four days to stop a killer in this “shocking…‘must read’”* from #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Gardner—one of Library Journal’s Best Thrillers of the Year.
Charlene Grant believes she is going to die. For the past few years, her childhood friends have been murdered one by one. Same day. Same time. Now she’s the last of her friends alive, and she’s counting down the final four days of her life until January 21st.
Charlene doesn’t plan on going down without a fight. She has taken up boxing, shooting, and running. She also wants Boston’s top homicide detective, D. D. Warren, to handle the investigation.
But as D. D. delves deeper into the case, she starts to question the woman’s story. Instinct tells her that Charlene may not be in any danger at all. If that’s true, the woman must have a secret—one so terrifying that it alone could be the greatest threat of all.

Lisa Gardner is a superb author
So far I’ve not been disappointed in one of Lisa’s novels. Each story grows larger than what you anticipate. The twists and turns leave you reeling at times but eventually lead to an end that works if not becomes completely satisfying.Catch me was as well done and any of her other novels but left slightly unfinished at the end. It makes me wonder if another story is out there for one of the secondary characters and I eagerly anticipate her next book.I love her evolution of D.D. Warren and Alex. Their new roles as parents show them both in a different light and one that is very flattering for D.D. especially. The character “Charlie” is a tough as nails woman who is not sure she has overcome her torturous childhood and is not sure if there are things she does that she shouldn’t. Her memory is faulty or missing and her physical and emotional exertions keep her slightly off balance most of the time. “Jesse” is the little boy we hope stays safe in the end. We don’t always get what we want… In “Detective O” we see a little of a younger version of D.D. and can’t help but compare the two current personalities. Her characters as always are detailed and rich with mystery of their own. Even older more well known characters always show us a new side, something different. The story line, as in any of her other books is a hard one. The details of the abuse of scattered characters throughout the book is heartbreaking and horrifying at the same time. As always, there are triumphs and failures in the end. You hope for the best and accept what she gives us with a nod and “It really couldn’t have ended any other way” and still been a Lisa Gardner book. She’s not easy to take. Her fictional worlds are harsh and unyielding but not without its share of love and sometimes, even humor. We don’t always get what we want in the end, but I think Lisa Gardner has the courage to write the hard stuff and keep us wanting more when all is said and done.I think my only disappointment was the absence of Bobby Dodge. I’ve grown so used to him popping up that his absence was felt. But then again, maybe D.D. has finally and completely let him go as her first love.

A good read !
Catch Me (D.D. Warren, #6) by Lisa GardnerCharlie Rosalind Carter Grant comes to Detective D.D. Warren claiming she will be murdered in four days. As D.D. begins to investigate she starts to question everything about Charlie.Something seems off, but she is not sure what. As the days count down, secrets will be revealed, lives in danger and no one is quite who they seem to be.A fast paced thrilling suspense. Twist, turns and secrets slowly revealed had me on the edge of my seat. Just when I thought I had it all figured out a another shocking event. I was engrossed from the first page until the last.A must read for Lisa Gardner fans and those who enjoy a great crime/thriller/suspense.

What would you do if you knew the date of your murder? A premise so delicious you can’t stop chewing. Must Read.
Wow, Lisa Gardner hooks you right out of the gates with a premise that blows you away. Charlene Grant runs across Boston’s top homicide detective, D.D. Warren, and enlists her to investigate her murder (which hasn’t occurred yet). Charlene’s childhood friends have been murdered every year on January 21st and she is the last one remaining. With the date a mere 4 days away, her world is closing in on her. This fast-paced thriller will have you mesmerized at every twist, turn and unexpected event all the way up to a climax that will leave you breathless. (I can’t say any more without spoiling it)Lisa Gardner has been a master of the thriller genre for some time but with Catch Me she takes her D.D. Warren character and her own personal skills to the rarified air of “I can’t stop reading this book – I don’t care about missing my train stop, lunch can wait, the kids can take care of themselves tonight.”An immediate classic. Not only a must read, but a must recommend.

Everyone has to die sometime!
This is a crazy, twisted story about mother-daughter relationships when violence and mental illness enter the equation! The prologue definitely confused me and hooked me right into this Detective D.D.Warren mystery! You will not want to stop reading with all the action and drama involved! I couldn’t put this book down!

Three-strand twist
Another psychological thriller from Lisa Gardner using D.D.Warren as the central investigator. As with several of Gardner’s books, she explores a character (alibeit one no longer alive) suffering from mental illness, in this case Manchausan’s. Having suffered as her mother’s victim for the first eight years of her life, Charlene Grant has developed coping strategies that cause suspicion and distrust from members of the police force. Charlene’s story of abuse is interwoven with her story that develops as she counts down what may be the last four days of her life. Still a third story strand focuses on D.D. Warren as she returns to the police force after maternity leave and must re-evaluate her dedication to her job as she experiences new feelings as a mother. To complicate things, D.D. is investigating a series of murders of pedophiles. The emotions and situations are heavy, and if you don’t want to explore these psychological mysteries, then you may not enjoy the book as much. The story is not easily read and followed, so be prepared to stop periodically to keep everything straight. But the stories all come together in the end, and overall, the book is an interesting look at the evolving character of Det. Warren and new characters who are well-developed and sympathetic.

‘Love You More’ was a very hard act to follow. I rated that book in my top 5 crime thrillers of 2011. This book follows the same basic tenet – two strong female characters on different sides of the legal fence. The one is, of course D.D.Warren, a homicide sergeant in Boston who is tasked by the other woman, Charlie Grant, to prevent her intended murder on a certain date only a few days hence.Charlie’s only two best friends were each murdered on the 21st. January a year apart and now, she feels, it’s likely to be her turn. But Charlie is not quite what she seems and Warren has her work cut out as both women try to discover just who is doing the targeting and the killing. Add on a series of murders of paedophiles on Warren’s watch and, little by little the pieces begin to fit together.Gardner is always good for a top-notch thriller and this book provides a gripping and yet intriguing story as to who might be guilty of what. Gardner’s good, too, in providing intelligent twists to her tale and in this book, she doesn’t let us down.Warren has always been a tough nut to crack but the author seems to have relented a little. Warren juggles with a new baby, giving more of a relaxed approach to her workload in the office. Maybe we’re all getting older and experience certainly teaches us more than the classroom can, so Warren delegates more work, spends a little time with her family but still hunts down the killer. On the other hand, Charlie is very much a tough nut taking no prisoners in her own quest to stay well ahead of the killer no matter what it takes. Not unnaturally, this leads to an excellent finale, one which can be spotted if you try hard enough, so ‘Catch Me’ isn’t quite as good as ‘Love You More’. But so what? This is a really good crime thriller and leaves the reader, not for the first time, waiting for the next D.D.Warren book.
