Especially the second half is action-packed and nerve-racking!
I tend to enjoy C.L. Taylor’s psychological thrillers, and I admit that I was fully intrigued as soon as I first heard about Every Move You Make. The stalking angle, the murder, the threat that one of the others is next… It sounded like the perfect premise for a suspenseful and nail-biting ride, and I’ve been looking forward to finally read it. I’m not surprised at all that I ended up having an excellent time with this story! Sure, some aspects are a bit too farfetched or convenient, but there is no denying that this story delivers one heck of a ride. What gave this story even more impact is the fact that the author herself was a victim of stalking in the past, and I applaude her for taking such a negative experience and turn it into this gem. I can’t even imagine what it would be like having to live with a stalker, and the author does a fantastic job portraying these emotions in a genuine way. Every Move You Make isn’t your regular stalker psychological thriller though. Instead of just one stalker and one victim, there are actually multiple of both in play. On top of this, the victims decide to fight back and stalk their stalkers instead… Which was probably one of the things I loved most about the plot.Every Move You Make uses a multiple POV structure, and I do have to say that it took me a little while to properly keep them apart and remember every detail about their situation and private life. At times they even started to sound similar? I think maybe there was initially a bit too much focus on background, red herrings and other unrelated information, and this slowed down the pace a little. That said, things pick up soon enough, and there is plenty of action to be found along the way. And those twists! Especially once you get closer to the deadline, there is a LOT going on. It’s true that some of the twists were a bit too convenient (why do cell phones always have to die in critical moments?!), while others were a bit too farfetched. If you can look past that, the story is without doubt highly entertaining though. As for the characters… I can’t say that I really warmed up to them, but somehow I wasn’t too bothered by that. I think this has a lot to do with the fact that there is SO much happening and you will find yourself more worried about the deadline and other events. Every Move You Make has a bit of an unreliable narrator vibe, as you are never completely sure if everyone is telling the truth. This feeling will only become more accute once certain information is revealed… And while I did guess part of the twist, I never saw the full truth coming. If you are looking for an entertaining and tense psychological thriller focused on stalking and don’t mind suspending your disbelief in parts, Every Move You Make will be a great match. Especially the second half is action-packed and nerve-racking!

Stalker Alert
What can you do to get rid of a stalker? Go to the police, go to the courts, but often those measures really don’t work. What if you banded together with others to stop each other’s stalker? This one has a whole host of characters: the people who are being stalked, their stalkers, and some significant others. In my opinion, there are too many characters to develop rooting power for them. The book opens with a chilling journey home after work for Nat and her stalker, one step behind her. The reader gets a feeling for the terror and helplessness that occurs in these situations. We then meet River, Alex, Lucy, and Bridget and hear about each of their stalkers and how they develop plans to reclaim their lives from their stalkers. There were quite a few twists in this one, and the premise had promise. It didn’t quite develop enough for me, and I found it hard to keep everyone straight in my head. This one seems to have plenty of people who love it, and for some, it didn’t work. I think it would work well for those who love lots of twists and don’t mind a full cast of characters.Thank you to Avon Books UK for my gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

A page-turner!
I was thrilled to receive C.L. Taylor’s new book Every Move You Make, an insight into how dangerous stalking is when victims are left to fend for themselves.Set in four points of view, Lucy, River, Bridget and Alex are terrified when a mutual friend is killed by a stalker. Realising they too are at risk, each with their own stalkers, they decide to make a plan. With the use of a small group chat they have set up themselves, they are able to monitor each other frequently. With backstories and dangerous exes, this makes for a propulsive read, but also a triggering one. If you have suffered intense stalking, this might not be the book for you. But for me, it was a huge learning curve into the hows and whys of stalking, and the red flags to avoid in relationships, where obsessive, compulsive personalities may abound. The plot is intricate and well thought out. With so many twists and turns, it was hard – at times – to keep up. The chapters headings: Four days until someone dies… made it a page-turner for me and the ending was one I had considered, but I enjoyed it all the same.

A twisty tale!🥨
Four strangers become fast friends and develop a unique support group. One that no one ever wants to find themselves in. This is a support group for those who are being stalked.Do these four have what it takes to stop their tormentors and take their lives back? The storyline itself was a fabulous, twisty tale that will have you casting a suspicious eye on everyone from both within and outside the group. The author did a superb job giving the reader a vivid glimpse of what it’s like to be stalked. The fear and helplessness of being in that situation, with few if any options available to take back control. It’s not just a crime targeting the wealthy and powerful. With domestic violence escalating, it can happen to anyone.Be sure to read the authors note at the end.❣️Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK.

Having read, and reviewed, C.L.Taylor’s latest novel: ‘It’s Always’ The Husband’ I was drawn to this – her previous work this novel: ‘Every Move You Make’. So, what did I think? The book deals with stalking & stalkers and neither is nice; to say the least. As I read it initially it didn’t grab me as much as the other did, but as I read on I began to wonder about her – the author’s – research into the subject; I found myself thinking: this comes across/reads as a personal experience! Could it be; could it be . . . On finishing the book I read the ‘Author’s Note’ and immediately realised that I was right: It is based on a real life experience, but with fictionalized events. The note begins: ‘Fifteen years ago, I was stalked for several months by my controlling and coercive ex-boyfriend. . .’ In a nutshell that’s how good this book is; it really captures the essence of what it must be like to be ‘stalked’; the victim of a stalker; not a pleasant experience by any stretch of the imagination. The characters comprise of 5 friends – three female & one male – whose friendship has come about as a result of a common experience: they are all been stalked; Of the five – Natalie – is murdered on her on doorstep by her stalker (this is not a spoiler as it happens early on in the story) this results in an ever increasing level of fear in the others who form a WhatsApp group; initially titled ‘F***You Stalker Twats’ which they reduced to the acronym ‘FYST”, to maintain contact with each other and to try rid themselves of their respective stalkers. . .Having received a threat that one of them will die in 10 days time most chapters deals with movements/activities of one character: Lucy – Alexandra – River or Bridget with a sub heading noting the number of days remaining before the threat is carried out! This is an excellent read with multiple twists and turns leading you up the garden path – as the saying goes. I expect that, like myself, when you reach the conclusion you will every bit as surprised as I was.C.L.Taylor is definitely a master of the psychological thriller. If such thrillers are your bag; your choice you won’t go wrong with this one.Recommended.Bill Brady

The characters were really well created, a collection of people who took time to gel because they wouldn’t have likely come across each other or been natural friends other than through the shared secret that drew and glued them together.I really enjoyed this book and found it difficult to put down. I think in part that’s because the characters were so different that there were parts of each of their personalities that I connected with and as a result I was invested in every chapter equally.I must admit that I found their unwillingness to go to the police very frustrating at times but as a victim of stalking and with the worrying facts Cally presented in her acknowledgements it looks as if the characters didn’t just have some secret of their own to hide but had lost faith in a system which didn’t do enough to protect them, not just once but time and time again. That is a real cause for concern, as is the way an eloquent speaker is always more easily believed.Cally Taylor does such a good job at casting doubt over her characters version of events. This is so cleverly handled and highlights both the issue of perspective and the importance of hearing both sides of a story but also how much doubt one perspective can throw on another person’s version of the truth. Regardless of how honest a character has convinced themselves and others that they are, the truth of a situation that people come away with is often based on the strength of both parties to convince others. This psychology from the seeds Cally has planted will stay with me for a long time.

I’ve read a few of C L Taylor’s books and usually can’t wait to read the next. Sadly, this one just didn’t do it for me. I had to keep going back to confirm who was who and what was happening to them. There were also quite a few typographical errors that should have been picked up at proofreading. Overall, not a bad read, but not the best for me personally.
