Everything I Know About Love: A Memoir
New York Times Bestseller
Like Bridget Jones’ Diary but all true― a wildly funny, occasionally heartbreaking coming-of-age memoir from the funny, sharp British journalist and podcast host, who Elizabeth Gilbert calls “a sparkling Roman candle of talent.”
“The older you get, the more baggage you carry. When you date at twenty-five, everyone walks into the bar with a very neat, light carry-on. When you date from thirty onwards, get ready to meet someone absolutely brimming with history, complications and demands.”
When it comes to the trials and triumphs of becoming an adult, writer Dolly Alderton has seen and tried it all. In her memoir, she vividly recounts falling in love, finding a job, getting drunk, getting dumped, and that absolutely no one can ever compare to her best girlfriends. Everything I Know About Love is about bad dates, good friends and―above all else― realizing that you are enough.
Glittering with wit and insight, heart and humor, Dolly Alderton’s unforgettable debut memoir about navigating your twenties weaves together personal stories, satirical observations, a series of lists, recipes, and other vignettes that will strike a chord of recognition with women of every age.
Perfect for fans of Nora Ephron and Caitlin Moran, this book is a hilarious and heartfelt look at the messiness of growing up:
Female Friendship: A loving celebration of the ride-or-die girlfriends who get you through bad dates, terrible jobs, and the times you forget that you are enough.Relatable Humor: Dolly Alderton’s wildly funny and painfully honest stories of getting drunk, getting dumped, and figuring it all out will have you laughing with recognition.Dating Disasters: From MSN Messenger flirtations to disastrous first dates, a sharp and witty look at the trials and triumphs of looking for love in all the wrong places.Humorous Memoir: More than just stories, this debut includes satirical observations, lists, and even recipes for when your heart (or head) is aching.

4 stars
I actually thought this memoir was really fun. The email/letter chapters were so funny and I agreed with a lot of what she was conveying in them. I also enjoyed the recipes thrown in as well. Some laughs, some heartbreaks, some hard truths but a fun read

A good book for those who are learning to love themselves
This book is really good I just believe I not the proper audience. Dollys relationships with others and herself change and grow as she gets older and we see how she deals with each of those relationships. I quite enjoyed it as someone who grew up with budding technology and as a woman in general growing older. I believe the separation comes in as I am a queer American woman. Where’s Dolly makes a lot of allusions to living in London that sometimes makes it harder to follow along. Along with being queer almost all of her struggles revolve around her relationships with men. When I was younger I did used to center men so I was able to relate but as she got older and life for her became a party it was hard to see myself in her. Not saying that she did anything wrong I just believe it is a difference in the type of people we are. I really did enjoy the chapters on her relationships with friends as it is very unique to girlhood and thought it would end strong. Also with her chapters growing older. I am still in my twenties but even now I feel that weight of getting older. But then it comes back around to dating as an older woman. I loved her message but like I said I just think it wasn’t for me. She is a beautiful writer and I will definitely check out her other work as well.

One of the best books I have ever read
How do I even begin to explain what this book means to me? this book talks about love in all shapes and all sizes. Love in the nature of friendship, and love in the nature in romance. It makes you look at yourself and understand these parts of you as a person, the good and the bad. The things that make life worth living. It’s womanhood, the shared tears and laugher with your closest friends. The memories of good and bad experiences but with a view of how they have made you who you are today, and what you will be. The easy and the difficult, the fun and the hard. It’s a book about navigating life and all the shit that comes with that.

4.5!!!
Let me just say I loved this memoir and I didnt think it would be for me at first. I decided to listen to the audio book on a whim and it really added something I can’t put into words. The author narrates her life in such a beautiful way even when she’s talking about some ugly things. Her life and stories made me laugh and cry. What really got me was the overarching theme of the power of love through female friendships. I cannot express how beautifully dolly put into words her point of view of her best friends and their experiences growing up with each other. Overall, love love love and recommend to all!

I understand that some people don’t see the point in the book, because there is no plot in the classical way. But that’s what I LOVED about it. It is fun on the one hand and made me cry on the other hand, it has it’s ups and downs – and that is just like life is! My personal life couldn’t be more different to Dolly Aldertons but I just enjoyed all the stories and just felt so included like I would be part of her life. It’s a memoir so don’t expect a proper story but more like snippets of a life of someone in her twenties exploring herself, love, her friends, her life.
