To the Bone (David Wolf Mystery Thriller Series Book 7)

The Bestselling David Wolf Mystery-Thriller Series continues, with a story that will bring you to the rocky, scorched earth of northwest Colorado. In a place where ancient, killing monsters are buried beneath, it seems more are still prowling topside.

Chief Detective David Wolf’s son has a new girlfriend, and when she discovers her father—a well known man in ancient fossils trade circles—has been murdered, she and the rest of her shattered family turn to Wolf to bring them justice.

With the help of a small town sheriff and a retired police dog named Jet, Wolf follows the clues to a dig site in western Colorado, where secrets have been entombed for eons, and people are dying to keep them that way.

In this suspense-filled seventh installment of the David Wolf Mystery Thriller series, Wolf must keep his wits or it will be his bones found next.

Update your book from the manage your Kindle.. Awesome Read
The editing marks and proof reading edits have been removed, the actual final copy was immediately noticed by both the Author and the many readers on his mailing list (who are given advanced notice with a special sale price). If you don’t have your “auto-update” feature set on your Kindle, just go to your “Manage my Kindle content” feature and re-download the book. This should only be an issue if you purchased your copy before August 10th, once this has been corrected, the reading is smooth and compelling. [UPDATE: A TOC (aka Table of Contents) was added to the ebook during a second eBook update].~~~~ Updated Review of Book ~~~~👓No spoilers in my review, feel safe reading it. 👓Once again we find Detective David Wolf on the hunt for a murderer, this time the victim is the father of his son’s new girlfriend. With the help of a small town sheriff and a retired police dog, Wolf follows the clues to Northwest Colorado and a dig site where it seems monsters, long buried are still roaming the earth, Wolf must keep his wits, or he might be one of the many bones unearthed at the site. That’s about all the details I can give without getting into spoilers, so I will stop there. You will have to read the book to find out what happens. The storyline flowed at a well developed pace, the characters detailed enough so you can feel and relate to them. No noticeable typos or errors in sentence structure. The absence of a table of contents can be a bit annoying (if your like me), but that doesn’t detract from your enjoyment of the book once you start reading. After all, that’s what bookmarks are for. 😊With enough twists and turns to keep you guessing, occasional outbursts of laughter, you find yourself turning page after page until you’ve reached the last one. Definitely a book you’ll want to add to your David Wolf Collection. Highly recommended.

    To the Bone
David Wolf now works for Sluice–Byron County Sheriff’s Department (SBCSD) as Chief Detective. His son, Jack, is living with him and he has adopted a retired police dog named Jet.When Jack’s girlfriend, Cassidy Frost, discovers her father’s body, she calls David Wolf… The Frost family wants Wolf to catch the murderer and “bring them justice”… Ryan Frost was a man well known in the “ancient fossils trade circles” and had made a one million dollars sale prior to his death… Wolf gets help from Jet and Sheriff Shumway of Windfield County chasing down the clues…This book goes from Rocky Point to Winfield County, where Ryan Frost had a secret dig site. The storyline is interesting and the reader is invited to follow the clues and develop new leads with Wolf and Shumway. As the bodies pile up, they will have to work fast so they are not the next victims…I really enjoy reading the books in this series. They are full of twists, turns and surprises. I never figure out the whodunnit before the culprit is revealed. These are really good suspense thrillers!AfterThoughts: I have read about the Dinosaur Ridge, Colorado dig sites (east of Denver) and the dinosaur species Allosaurus. I could not help but wonder if this is the area Mr. Carson was writing about…Typos/Errors kept this book from being a five star review (examples: “he shivered and blinked the thought out of his mind.” … ““I don’ think that’s necessary at all.” … “…bending over the seat to pet Jack” — the dog’s name is Jet, Jack is Wolf’s son).

    Always a great read
I’ve read all the Carson books pertaining to the David Wolf series. This author is consistently a great read. His attention to detail in plot and character development is one of the best I’ve ever encountered. The story line flows along and I find myself wanting to read from page one to page last in one sitting. That is seldom the occasion, however, so “thread” becomes important. By that I mean that in those times in which I must leave the book and return later, I don’t have to re-read pages to remember where I am. My memory recall kicks in and I just take off from there.I don’t re tell story lines in my reviews, but suffice it to say, I’ve never had the experience with any of Jeff’s books wherein I was able to figure out the the punch line before I got there. He keeps me guessing all the way to the end! I’ve said this before: David Wolf is to Jeff Carson as Harry Bosch is to Michael Connelly. For those of you unfamiliar with this comparison to those two protagonists…..

    Another fine read by Carson
Another fine read by Carson. Spoiler alert. This one starts with Chief Detective David Wolf assisting Cassidy Frost, his son Jacks girlfriend, with a flat tire.On arrival at home his old friend Nate is there with Jack and Jet a nine year old German Shepherd police dog retired from the Vail County PD. Jack adopted him. Jets a massive beautiful dog and well trained. He’s a tracking and attack dog and is very calm and stoic.Nate and Dave are getting ready to cut some trees down to widen the no brush zone around the property as there is a fire burning to the North of them.Jack brings his phone out and says Cassidy needs to speak with him. Dave takes the phone and Cassidy tells him her father has been shot. Wolf tells her to go to the Sheriffs station now and he heads for the Frost residence. So begins one damned fine read. This one has Dave, Sheriff MacLean, Jack, Cassidy, Jet, a dead fossil dealer named Ryan Frost, Ratchett, Patterson, Munford, ME Lorber, dinosaur bones, a man with a very sick grandson, a Senator Leavenworth, two digs looking for dinosaur bones, millions of dollars worth of bones, Professor Jeffrey Green, a plan by Green, three of his interns who are in on the plan, murder, attempted murder and David Wolf once again doing what he does best. Solve the crime.Five Stars.

Good pacing and an intriguing puzzle with some subtle red herrings and believable characters. Carson handles his material like a true craftsman and I am glad to have discovered this series. Not saying it’s perfect. I struggled to keep up with the number of characters and the timeline. I also thought it wouldn’t take much for Wolf to become cliched, and though I liked the happy ending, I’m not sure it added to the book.If it’s true what other reviewers say – that this isn’t the best of the series – I’m looking forward to reading some of the others.
