The bestselling author of Final Girls and Survive the Night is back with his “best plot twist yet.” (People, “Best Summer Books”)
Be careful what you watch for . . .
Casey Fletcher, a recently widowed actress trying to escape a streak of bad press, has retreated to the peace and quiet of her family’s lake house in Vermont. Armed with a pair of binoculars and several bottles of bourbon, she passes the time watching Tom and Katherine Royce, the glamorous couple living in the house across the lake. They make for good viewing—a tech innovator, Tom is powerful; and a former model, Katherine is gorgeous.
One day on the lake, Casey saves Katherine from drowning, and the two strike up a budding friendship. But the more they get to know each other—and the longer Casey watches—it becomes clear that Katherine and Tom’s marriage isn’t as perfect as it appears. When Katherine suddenly vanishes, Casey immediately suspects Tom of foul play. What she doesn’t realize is that there’s more to the story than meets the eye—and that shocking secrets can lurk beneath the most placid of surfaces.
Packed with sharp characters, psychological suspense, and gasp-worthy plot twists, Riley Sager’s The House Across the Lake is the ultimate escapist read . . . no lake house required.

Couldn’t put it down!!
Riley Sager never disappoints! The first chapter of this book is a little slow, but after that, things really pick up. The ending is a jaw-dropper with so many twists and turns I found my head reeling as I tried to keep up. I’ve read everything Sager has written, and always look forward to each new release. What makes him such a unique storyteller is that you never know what kind of book he’s going to deliver, each tale wonderfully unique.Casey Fletcher, an actress suffering from recent bad press, is banished to her family’s house on exclusive and remote Lake Green after the death of her husband and her subsequent deterioration into alcoholism. She’s a train wreck to say the least, but the perfect narrator for this unusual tale that is part crime mystery, part psychological suspense, and part supernatural thriller. The story has a bit of Rear Window vibe with Casey watching her neighbors across the lake through binoculars—a tech mogul and a supermodel who live in a lavish glass house. There’s also a former cop with a murky past who lives next door. The way in which the lives of these four characters intertwine kept me repeatedly second-guessing what I thought I knew about each. Oh, such a clever author! I love the way in which Sager introduces a plot thread only to have it corkscrew it in an entirely different direction later. Fair warning that the ending is “out there,” but for pure story satisfaction and reading enjoyment you can’t go wrong with The House Across the Lake!

Recommend!!!
Seeking refuge from a recent tragedy and a wave of bad press, actress Casey Fletcher retreats to her family’s lake house, where she fills her days with bourbon and casual spying on her wealthy neighbors, Tom and Katherine Royce. After a near-drowning leads to an unexpected friendship, Casey becomes increasingly suspicious of the couple’s “perfect” marriage—especially when Katherine disappears without a trace. As she digs deeper, she uncovers secrets beneath the lake’s seemingly placid surface and realizes nothing is as it appears. For the first 60–70% of The House Across the Lake, I was completely hooked by the moody atmosphere, subtle dread, and voyeuristic tension. Riley Sager skillfully weaves mystery with hints of horror, all while painting vivid scenes of the secluded lakeside setting. However, the story’s final act took a turn that didn’t fully align with my personal tastes, dropping my rating to around 3.7 stars (though still rounding up to 4). Even so, the unexpected twists and well-crafted prose made it an enjoyable read overall, immersing me in the characters’ layered secrets and motivations.Fans of suspenseful mysteries with a dash of horror elements will likely enjoy this. It’s well suited for young adult readers and up, though keep in mind content warnings: drowning, violence, alcoholism, murder, abuse, and suicide. If you appreciate tense, character-driven thrillers and don’t mind an unconventional twist, The House Across the Lake is worth adding to your reading list.

What the fudge happened
SPOILER ALERT——————————————————————————————————————————————————I was really looking forward to reading this book. It seemed promising. And at first it was good. The main character (forgot her name that’s how unimpressed I was) is an actress who went off the deep end and became an alcoholic after the husband dies. She becomes obsessed at watching her neighbors across the lake through binoculars (hence the name of the book). Then the wife from that house disappears and she’s trying to figure out what’s happens and she believes she’s been killed. The book switches from past to present while you’re trying to figure out who the main character is with (presumed killer). I definitely did not expect who was with her. But tbh the plot is just really confusing cause she knows who the real killer is and then there paranormal crap and this book had me in the first half but then I was just trying to get it over with. All in all, it was just ok.

A fantastic book! A must read!
Casey Fletcher is a famous actress who has received some really bad press. As a way to escape that, she retreats to her lake house. Across the lake, a house is bought by model Katherine Royce and her husband Tom, who she spies on with binoculars. She winds up saving Katherine’s life one day when she’s out boating and Katherine was about to drown. Then things get weird, and Katherine disappears. Casey becomes consumed with trying to find out what happened to Katherine and who is behind her disappearance.I’ve read Sager before and I’ve always felt his books were good, but never out of the park fantastic. This one was quite different in so many ways that I absolutely loved it! Is it a little weird? Yes. Do you have to really suspend belief? Yes. But I loved that it took a turn that was so completely different than anything that I’ve ever read.I promise you that no matter what, unless you read spoilers, that if you haven’t read this one yet, then you probably will not guess which way this is going to go. I for sure thought I knew what was going on. In fact, at one point I said “HA, I knew it!” Then I kept reading, and I was still wrong. All of the characters were interesting and each had their place in the plot. It was Sager’s twisted mind that put them there for a reason! I love how the book ended and I’m so glad that I FINALLY read this one. So if you haven’t read it yet, I highly suggest that you do so!

Talk about a twist!
Would be very easy to give this one away. Of all the books that I’ve read, this one went totally in a different direction. All that I can say is, get ready and read it for yourself.
