Addicting Series
Never before have I read a series one after another but these Miles and Grey books won’t let me go! Just finished “The Promise” (#4) after reading “The Teacher”, “The Secret” and “The Angel” and looks like it’s on to #5, “Truth or Die”. The characters and plots are compelling and although each book contains at least one complete case, there are ongoing story lines that keep one, at least this reader, wanting more. I enjoy the different threads within each book which are (unlike in some books) easy to follow and they all pull together in the end. Katerina Diamond is a very talented author and writes the most interesting dedications! Highly recommend this series.

Well-Rounded Story
This is a great thriller. I loved the way the story was a little disjointed and a little disconnected so it was fun trying to figure out how it all tied together, but once you did, the book sort of lost its flare and I kind of feel like that’s what Katerina felt too, which was why the ending was quite quick, clean and tidy. No real twist or surprises and that’s what takes this book from a 5 to a 4. But as always I very much enjoyed my read! Thank you Katerina!!

Excellent!
I had read ” The Teacher” and liked it so much I looked for more from this author. Not realizing it was a series I accidentally picked up this book, last in the series. After realizing what I’d done I tried to put it down and save it til I read the other two…but oh, I could not do that. I was hooked. It was just too captivating. I now have all the books and look forward to reading them. I will always read this author; also have “Truth or Die” and will be driving in soon! A solid 5 stars so far.

Loving this series
I am so intrigued with this series. The storyline and character come to life & captivate the reader. I’ve already got the next book & can’t wait to see the trouble they get into next.

Good Read
It was a nice read. I have not read a book of this genre in a while and it was a good place to start.

Another winner from Katerina Diamond
I just love Diamond’s writing style. The mysteries are always so well done and also really character driven. Even though the book was kind of long, I just flew right through it. I never wanted to put it down. I will say that this is the first of her books that I figured things out well before they were revealed, but I was so invested in all the characters that I didn’t mind not being surprised like I have been before. While the story is told through several different viewpoints, we get quite a lot of Connor’s POV. I think we actually hear more from him than from Imogen or Adrian and while I expected that to upset me, it didn’t. As I mentioned earlier, I was heavily invested in the characters and that included Connor. I felt so bad for all that he went through and just wanted to see him catch a break. Though he plays an integral role in the mystery and the lead up to the resolution, I thought his own ending was left a little more open than I like. Though I don’t anticipate it happening, I really wouldn’t mind seeing more of him in future books. There were a few developments in Imogen and Adrian’s personal relationships and their partnership, as well. Adrian is still grieving from the events of the previous book. Imogen struggles with making the decision between keeping her relationship with Dean or moving along in her career. In addition, their own relationship begins to change and neither of them are sure about what’s happening. I don’t want to get too spoilery, but I am very, very anxious to see how things develop in the next book.Overall, I really enjoyed The Promise. I’m afraid this little review doesn’t come close to expressing how much. I loved the writing, the mystery, and the characters. While this book still had plenty of dark content, it wasn’t as dark as some of the other books in this series and I liked that. Katerina Diamond has really become one of my favorite authors and I definitely recommend her to mystery and crime fans. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series

The Promise is the fourth book in the Imogen Grey series by Katerina Diamond but only the second one I have read. That said, it can easily be read as a stand alone and I didn’t feel at too much of a disadvantage having not read other books. You do get a good recap of what has come before, but not so much as to spoil the other reads completely, although, as always, exercise caution as there is one element which I think will give away book three quite a bit.The story is one which many people will recognise – women being murdered by someone they have met through a dating app. The only problem is for Imogen and her partner Adrian Miles is that descriptions of the potential suspect differ greatly and there is no discernible link between the victims and the men they may have been dating. The killer is clever, ensuring that any electronic trails are eliminated and leaving no trace of themselves at the scene. So just how will the pair catch this cruel murderer before he, or she, can strike again. This is really a triple narrative story, part focusing on Imogen and Adrian as they investigate the murder and navigate their own complicated personal and work relationships. It also focuses on a teenage boy, Connor, who has just moved to Exeter with his father. Connor is a curiosity in his new school – American, good looking, easily fitting in with the ‘in-crowd’, but he is clearly harbouring a dark secret, one which is slowly revealed through the course of the story. Connor should be at ease with the popular kids but he is more fascinated by his next door neighbour, a young girl called Selina, who Connor recognises as a kindred spirit. It is initially hard to see where Connor’s story fits in with the main murder investigation but as you read on things become a lot clearer and Katerina Diamond has done a brilliant job of pulling the seemingly separate threads together. Now I mentioned this was a triple narrative story, and it is, with the third segment being told through a series of flashbacks. I don’t want to say too much about this part of the book, but I will say that it is very dark and quite harrowing to read, full of manipulation and abuse and very skilfully helps to build an element of back story which will lead the reader to draw all manner of conclusions along the way about what is really happening. It creates a kind of misdirection, pointing the finger of suspicion to many potential perpetrators as you read, whilst cleverly disguising the truth of what is happening.I really like the way in which the author builds pace and urgency into the novel. As a reader you feel like the ultimate voyeur. You can tell immediately what will happen and feel the tension building inside you, but are powerless to change what is about to happen. You will curse the victims for their naivety whilst willing them to find a way to fight back. You will want Connor to come good, and yet be horrified by his actions, and you will pray that Imogen and Adrian find a way to stop the killer before it is too late, perched, as you inevitably will be, on the edge of your seat during those final few nail biting chapters. got to be honest, if you are looking for a read where the author takes it easy on their protagonists, then this really isn’t your read. Katerina Diamond is just plain mean. I love it.Fast paced, full of heart-stopping tension intertwined with more poignant and tender moments, this book is highly recommended. If you haven’t read any of this series yet you are missing a trick. Get and fix that now. If you are already a fan then rest assured, this is another brilliant read.

I loved this book, just like I loved all of the previous ones Katerina has written. She pulls you along & you feel like part of the story. I was a bit disappointed by the ending, I wanted a reconcilliation between Jacob & Connor; for them to find common ground after the discovery by Connor of what Joel had done. Nothing! No loose ends tied up on that front, you’re left believing that Jacob doesn’t even know that his friend was responsible for his life spiraling out of control & that of his wife, daughter & son.Apart from that, I really enjoy Katerina’s books. I love her 2 main characters & how their lives mingle both personally & professionally.Would recommend this book to anyone interested in this genre.

I’ve read all 4 books in this series and have loved them all. I could not put this one down! The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it felt like it needed 1 more chapter at the end to bring everything back together… you finally find out who the killer is and then the book just ended with so many unanswered questions about many other characters that you were really invested in… hopefully we’ll get some answers in the next book, but this felt a bit too rushed and sudden at the end. Solid read though, I’ll definitely keep my eye out for the next book!

Well this was a pleasant surprise! I’ve read the previous three books and despite having this one since publication day for whatever reason I’ve only just got round to reading it.After too many years I slipped back into the lives of Grey and Miles, the detective team working from Devon. I’d totally forgotten how fabulous this series is. I quickly caught up with what has happened in the past books as the background story is covered without it turning the novel into a slow burn novel, therefore this could be read as a stand-alone however it’s such a brilliant storyline with a great investigative team it’s well worth reading from the beginning. With the various points of view and timelines this story certainly kept me on my toes trying to figure out how the characters connected. The pace was also great, there was plenty of action and a hint of romance tied it altogether with a storyline I want to indulge so can’t wait to read Truth or Die which is the next in the series. (Book 5)
